Personality:
• Meticulous. As a craftswoman and a person, Sezja has an attention to detail and thoroughness that can border on the painstaking. In relations with others, this can be a downer (she remembers and analyzes everything, but it gives her a damned good edge with wandcraft.
• Peevish. She is easily annoyed, and can get snappy and bad-tempered when those certain annoyances arise. She hates to be interrupted in her work, for one: she becomes so deeply engrossed in it, that she will ignore distractions to the very last bit of her restraint and then respond with an angry outburst. Also, when she is referred to as a ‘half-breed’ she can tend to treat the offender with the worst manners she can possibly muster. If her feelings are hurt by someone, she will often simply childishly ignore their existence.
• Bleeding Heart. Sezja is a picture of deep caring and generosity for those in need. Just as she is naturally temperamental (and, although she refuses to show it, easy to make cry), she is inherently giving. The evils of the world upset her perhaps more than most, and she will lose sleep over a missing child she never knew or a friend’s friend’s cousin who is going through a nasty divorce.
• Unobtrusive. Sezja may be a bit of a novelty among the crowd for her Veela ancestry, but her nature demands privacy, quiet and calm. Despite all of her efforts to assist the resistance of the New Regime, she prefers the cool, dim and dusty atmosphere of her shop. She does not enjoy fame or notoriety, and is naturally quite modest. History:
Vyacheslav Sokolov was a very talented young apprentice to a Russian wandmaker. While journeying to Croatia in search of Veela hair, the handsome young Russian fell prey to the charms of Lona, a beguiling fair-haired Veela who took an immediate liking to him. Having received what he wanted, Sokolov high-tailed it back to his home in St. Petersburg and continued his education. Many months later, an angry Veela woman by the name of Mariska showed up on his doorstep (how she found him, he never found out) with a bundle of screeching magical mayhem. That was the beginning of Sezja.

Mariska, Lona’s mother, obstinately remained in Vyacheslav’s modest home in order to help care for Sezja. She never spoke a word to the father and for the most part, acted as if he weren’t in the room. To young Sezja, she taught the art of male beguilement and the ancient language of the Croatian Veela. Sokolov, not to be bested, taught his daughter wandlore (even though he believed it best that she never take up the craft truly, for it was to him a profession for pureblooded wizard men). When his master passed away, he took up the mantel of most respectable wandmaker in St. Petersburg and commenced to ignore his daughter’s budding ambition, taking a young wizard as his apprentice instead.

Sezja’s childhood and teen years were rough and tumble. Between the deeply strained atmosphere budding from Mariska and her father, her father’s disregard for her talent, and just barely being able to qualify for enrollment at Durmstrang, she was too often a weepy and self-depreciating mess. Even so, she remained inwardly quite strong – though she might whine and throw tantrums, Sezja got through it all and came out with a stiff upper lip and firm resolve.

Upon attendance to Durmstrang, Sezja’s heritage earned her much trouble. She was equally taunted and prodded by both genders until the male faction of her tormentors grew up enough to start to jeer at her in different ways. The gift/curse of heritage also brought her a few friends, some because they enjoyed the novelty and others who truly identified with her (i.e., other half-breeds). During the summer after her first year, Sezja met a young woman at a park and hit it off with her immediately. The girl was a muggle-born from England, and was traveling in Russia with her parents (to see her mother’s family; she had learned Russian through her mother). The two girls were instant best friends, and kept up a steady correspondence through the entirety of their school years. This friend, Adaline King, was a Ravenclaw who would graduate from Hogwarts the same year as Sezja and go on to become a valued Arithmancy expert.

Sezja (after a truly dreadful breakdown and lots of threats to run away) was finally permitted by her father to take on an apprenticeship with a wand-maker, though not with him; instead, she was apprenticed to Ziven Zablosky in Moscow. She shined, and after only six years of study was granted a sort of tentative partnership status. During this time she picked up smoking, got drunk and nearly married a man who claimed to be half-Yeti, then swore off smoking and drinking altogether. In 2008 she received word from her father that Mariska had passed away, and worried letters from the neighbors that her father himself was drowning in liquor and sorrows since her death. Apparently, the man had been fond of the old grouch after all. He passed away as well nearly a year later, and Sezja was deeply grief-stricken. She resolved to leave her home country completely and start up her own business in London, as Adaline King had offered her a place to stay.

Sezja was just about ready to move when she received a letter from Ada begging her not to come after all. Things were heating up in England, she said. Worried, Sezja sent a letter back in February of 2009, but there was no response. She packed up her bags in August, unable to wait any longer, and made the difficult move to England. What she found out was that it was extremely difficult to get into the country, and impossible to find her friend. She was let in and spared further scrutiny due to the fact that she was, despite being a half-breed, 100% magical being and was a respected wandmaker. With a little bit of searching she discovered that Adaline King had been arrested in March as a muggle-born, and beyond that her name had all but disappeared from the records.

Sezja floundered in grief, spending most of her monetary reserves on purchasing and restoring a mostly-intact building among the ruins of Diagon Alley and stocking it with materials for her trade, using the upper-story rooms for her living quarters. Throughout the remainder of 2009 and the whole of 2010, the Mariska Wands shop has thrived. One evening in January 2010, Sezja caught a wizard trying to steal some of her wands. After a brief duel (which Sezja just barely won with a weird streak of luck) and a lot of cursing and arguing, Sezja burst into tears and begged him (thinking him a member of the resistance, quite rightfully) to help her find her friend. In this way did she find out that the wizard was a member of S.A.V.O.I.R., and Sezja quickly joined their ranks, using her shop as a safe house between safe houses for S.A.V.O.I.R. and the Order, and providing new wands for freed slaves. Many protective spells on her shop, outrageous discounts for government members, and even occasionally her abilities of seduction as a half-Veela have helped her thus far to stay in business and out of Azkaban.
