The harsh, unforgiving cold of winter has long set in. Snow covers the ground and students tend find things to do inside as much as possible. With the Yule Ball fast approaching, students certainly have things to discuss and plan.
Politically, things are nowhere near as sound as people are lead to believe. There is turmoil amongst the ranks of the Death Eaters as Callid Warren and Fierro Darque plot against Trevor Williams, who is aided by Sienna Faber, but can she be trusted? Even amongst the people, there seems to be social unrest as SAVIOR works to free slaves and the leader of the Order of the Phoenix finds himself captured. Unification is necessary, but will it happen?

Excitement could be felt all around the streets of Knockturn Alley as shopkeepers began to set up little displays with candy for the young children who would soon be by to celebrate the holiday. The lights in jack-o-lanterns burned brightly through simple, jagged-tooth pumpkins and intricate designs of such things as dragons and vampires and numerous other things. People entered the taverns and exited, taking advantages of happy hours or quick meals while shoppers took advantage of the obligatory holiday sales in the shops around them. For once, the patrons were dressed in nice wizarding garb, their hoods up and tall, proudly towering above them. This was Halloween, the day all magic folk looked forward to all year.
However, something was different this day. Unbeknownst to those who were merrily making use of their time before the famed witching hour that would come in several more, a virus had been released amongst them by a masked, hooded figure. Any already there half an hour ago at its release had been infected, and any who were to come would soon find themselves faced with the aftermath. Some were already showing symptoms: agitation, a craving for human flesh, and it would be soon when the full effects would be seen and the undead would walk amongst the unsuspecting living.
And no one would even know what had hit them or why. A social experiment? An attempt to take revenge upon some unsuspecting fool and to hell with who else was caught in the crossfire? Speculation would be broad, perhaps even silly, but who was to say anything could or would ever be deduced? That was, of course, assuming anyone would still be alive.
But now, the few children who were there with their parents watched in awe, unsuspecting, as people set off fireworks and various other displays. In a corner near Borgin and Burkes and the Daily Prophet, someone stood, telling spooky stories that were captivating the young crowd that stood, leaning in, eager to hear what would happen next, the youngest gasping and holding onto their older siblings in fear. Parents congregated, chattering on about what they'd heard of the plans for this year's countdown to midnight. Excitement was in the air, but soon there would be nothing but chaos. [/justify]
It's all the little things... ...that create the big picture.

After much [futile] argument, Kara found herself wandering Knockturn Alley. The children back at Tutaminis (and some adults) were whining about missing one of the funnest holidays of the year, being cooped up in the Manor. Much to her dismay, Kara was out in the open, buying decorations, candies, candles, costumes and watching the kids and big little kids, also known as adults, wander around the secure confines of an Order support shop. She wouldn't have normally allowed such a thing to occur, and in all honesty, neither would Damien or any of the other authorities at the Manor, but Kara had to make some light out of the bland darkness that clouded over the Order and its safehouse as of late.
"Mum, lookit! I love Halloween!" A boy exclaimed to his mother, who was smiling at Kara, thankfully.
"Me too, Charles. Me too." She nodded, and Kara nodded back, and the woman wrapped her arms around her son, moving over to the next aisle to browse the various knickknacks.
There was a heavy thud on the counter behind the scarred one, and Kara turned to see the shop owner, Mathis, standing there with a with another box filled with merchandise practically spilling over the top. He was an older man, maybe in his fifties (though it was hard to tell), stringy brown and gray hair, patch over one eye and scar over the other. He smiled. "'s a good thing you've done, for these little ones." He jerked his head to upward, pointing out the rowdy and excited children wandering the place as if it was Christmas morning.
"Sure. If you want to call putting all of us in great danger a good thing." Kara gave a heavy sigh and shook her head, picking through some of the items in the box. "Thank you for letting us do this...I know you're probably losing a lot of business by shutting down to the regular public."
Mathis had shut down the store to the regular folk (including Death Eaters) by putting up a mirage, a spell he'd perfected in his younger days. It looked like this place was closed from the outside, and wouldn't lift until he wanted it to -- meaning whenever Kara and the gang decided to leave. She definitely owed him a favor. He chuckled and shook his head, "My pleasure, helping you folks out. Don't worry about me. We've done plenty of business for the month so far. I am just glad we could be of service to you guys. Must be nice for them to step outside the confines of that safehouse for a while, you know?"
Kara tossed a ball upward and caught it in her right hand. It wasn't every day she found people so kind and generous as Mathis. He was probably one of the best things she'd acquired after all of these months doing supply runs. He was a supporter, and a great ally. "Yeah." She stared through the windows to the outside, seeing all of the Citizens walking around and shopping in the complete open. Even though they were somewhere in public, it was still isolated from the real world. Those people out there were really free, she realized, with envy in her eyes.

Halloween.
Merlin, Jonathan hated this holiday. He hated the fact that people were calling it a holiday, when it was such a merchant holiday, about selling fabric, paints, decorations, candy...all to run around and scare people for a day. At least at Yule, or what others called "Christmas", one would obtain tangible satisfaction, and even a meal! Not Halloween. It supported obesity, mindless pranks, and immaturity.
Why Kara asked him to come along to this little shop filled with everything he loathed so much, puzzled him. He'd protested and fought and screamed and argued, yet, here he was. Whomever decided it would be a good idea to put Kara in charge of him must have known that it was a pet peeve to be scolded and told what to do. Man, she reminded him of his ex-wife, a little too much sometimes...
Picking up one of the sparklers lying outside of its packaging and on display, Jonathan ignited it and saw it start to fly around in the form of a ghost under a white sheet, a classic, with the holes cut out for eyes and everything. The children and some of the adults, probably their parents (probably not, and that was just sad), all oohed and ahhed at the ghost, some screaming as it flew by. Jon rolled his eyes, and threw the stem behind him. Toys, games, fun. He would feel like he was actually doing something productive, or rather, mature if he'd been able to stay at the Manor. At least it was quiet there. And dark. No sparklers, no luminous faux monsters chasing after you.
"Don't you guys have anything else to buy here?" He inquired at Mathis, strolling back to stand beside Kara, with folded arms.
"On any other day but today, of course. But this is All Hallows Eve, a Halloween celebration! What else would there be to sell?" Mathis shrugged and laughed aloud, starting to walk around with the box he had just retrieved, re-merchandising the shelves that were either sold out or looking like slim pickings.
"Of course." Jonathan pulled open a chocolate and took a bite, hoping that it was going to be a milk-chocolate flavor, a regular delicacy. Alas. He spit it out, looking disgustedly at Kara, and then studied the wrapper. "Dirt. Of all the things I could pick up to eat...it's dirt flavored chocolate. Brilliant."

Halloween was, he decided, his 2nd most favorite time of the year. Candies, fireworks, the ability to scare the living crud out of anyone without getting into to much trouble. Yes this time of year definitely called out to his childish side. So it wasn't much of a surprise when he found himself walking down the crowed streets of Knockturn Alley with a wide grin plastered over his face. Perhaps he'd run into someone he was familiar with, after all it was more fun to drink with two people then one, it kept the conversation flowing at least.
Children were running in and out of shops, gathering goodies and possible prank materials while their parents tried to keep track of them. He himself had stocked up on an impressive arsenal of junk food that would be any kids dream to get a hold of. He watch as fireworks were set off in intricate designs of spooks, ghouls, and dragons.
As he made his way past Borgin and Burkes on his way to his favorite watering hole, he noticed a large crowd had gathered and a man had captivated his audience with some sort of story. He slowed his pace, dug into his pocket and pulled out a sucker. He placed it in his mouth as he seemingly blend into the crowd and focused on what the story teller was saying. He was always interested in story's especially if the teller was good. Drinking it seemed could wait a bit as he became captivated by the story tellers words.

Alison Westwood hid in an alley in Diagon Alley, watching the people passing by with eyes empty of everything except hunger. Her eyes, in fact, were much different than they had been her entire life. Her irises and pupils had shrunk, or at least they had dulled. The whites of her eyes were what was most visible in them, now, as if the foggy color of them had begun to take over her eyes. Her face, which had already begun to grow so pale from the confines of Puxley Manor, was paler now, the dark circles under her eyes more pronounced.
But not so much more pronounced. Because when someone, like Alison, for example, become a slave, they become much like a zombie. For what is a zombie, really, other than something that has digressed into something less human, something that only functions on lower levels, only able to address the things it needs to survive? Anyone that glanced at Alison would have simply excused her appearance as a slave; that is, the people that knew about the slaves in the Puxley Manor.
But in no way was Alison just a slave now. Something had... happened that day. There was something in the Manor that she had stumbled upon, something that looked like a dead finger, and Alison, without realizing it was there, had touched it. At first she had been horrified, because then she had realized that it was a finger. But then... a change had come over her. Alison was suddenly more aware of how hungry she was, and, without thinking, she had picked the finger back up and ate it.
It tasted delicious. A mix of an almost salty, metallic taste and sweet meat. It was stringy, though. And then Alison had been horrified at herself, and then she wasn't, because it was the first good food she'd had in days, and as the seconds went by, she found she cared less and less and she was thinking less and less and then before she knew it she had punched through the window of the room she had been in, and lept out the window.
She's gotten out without so much as an alarm. Maybe it was because she wasn't human anymore, but whatever it was, Alison hadn't thought about it. She was hungry.
She had managed to get into Diagon Alley, although she didn't know how. She didn't care. She simply scanned the people, wondering to herself which person would taste the best.
Finally she spotted her target: a child, a fat one, plump but still so young and probably the best tasting. She didn't smile, but instead let out a low moan, and began to run at the little girl
The child didn't notice, at first; it laughed, thinking that this was just a game. Its parents were nowhere to be seen. But then Alison grabbed the girl, somehow able to pick her up, and sunk her teeth into the girl's tender flesh.

The streets were filled with laughter, gaiety, happiness and the thrill of the fright, until the storyteller could not find the words to finish the story he was presenting to the children. There was a distraction, an event that took place at that very moment. A howl blew through the shopper's alley, an ominous wind coming through the evening air, giving warning of what was to come...or rather, what had finally come to light. Herman Nox's eyes widened so big, he was sure his own eyeballs were going to pop right out. His brain could not fathom what had just happened...he was wanting so badly to say that what that stranger just did to the young girl in his crowd was not true and possibly just a game?
No.
That savage young woman just bit that poor little girl, and that poor little girl let out a blood curdling scream, one that Herman would remember forever. He started to tremble, running away as the children scattered, clinging tightly to the hands of their parents. Then, as he gave a look over his shoulder, pity in his eyes, Herman realized that the girl that had just lie victim to the stranger's ravenous attack, was parentless. There was no guardian around for this poor child. As he fought the good and bad consciences inside, Herman made a heroic attempt at saving the young girl from her attacker, pushing the animalistic woman aside and hanging onto the girl's hand as he stole away into the darkening streets. Chaos tore through Knockturn Alley, far worse than he'd seen any Death Eater raid, and that was truly saying something.
The worst part about this attack wasn't the fact that Alison had attacked a young girl, tearing through her flesh with her teeth...no. The worst part was: There were more of these flesh-hungry beings, starting to take over the city.
