Isis was...excited, to put it mildly. She had been...for weeks, much to the dismay of most everyone around her. She'd started drooling over a dress she wanted only a few weeks into the semester, and she'd finally bought it the last Hogsmeade trip. It had hung from her bedposts all the days since with the exception of when she'd hold it up to herself, stare at her reflection in the mirror, and swirl around, humming merrily to some made-up waltz-like tune. Usually, this was only done when she was certain she was alone in her dorm and wouldn't be interrupted by her roommates, but not always. Unfortunately, Isis did not deem this odd behavior in the dizzy high of her excitement.
What only made her case worse was that for the past few weeks, she had been ogling her crush more vehemently than usual in hopes of being asked to the Yule Ball. And when, two days ago, he had made it clear there was no way in hell he'd ask her to the ball or anywhere but a staircase to shove her down it, she had become desperate, mustering up the courage to ask out an already taken Hufflepuff that every girl who was straight in their house seemed to idolize. She'd left her perch beside him on the couch in the common room in a huff, haughtily declaring that he clearly had no tastes for real women. She had refused to speak a word of him that was nice since! In fact, the only interaction she had with John Cuthbert was to glare daggers at him while stirring her potion the wrong direction in potions and to shout out in frustration while shoving past him after the potion exploded in her face.
Today, however, she had woken up in a good enough mood. It even seemed she'd accepted her single status as she told her friends matter-of-factly on their way to Charms that morning. She'd returned to the dorms after lunch and had promptly packed all of her things in her trunk so that tomorrow morning she would have little left to do before boarding the Hogwarts Express and heading home and then had begun working on her hair. After all, she knew it would take hours despite having pretty much decided how she would do her hair last night before falling asleep. Nevertheless, she'd have to make sure it would do the trick.
By the time Isis had decided upon her usual over the shoulder ponytail with curls and some fancy do-dad or another, it was time for dinner, so she'd headed down and ate and then came upstairs to do her make-up and put on her dress. That had gone quicker than planned as her friends had been too busy talking about their dates for her to be interested in their conversation. So, she'd gotten up and put on some music to drown them out as she sat on her bed boredly and glanced at the clock. An hour. An hour and she'd be attending her final yule ball. Final. That thought, in and of itself, seemed to perk her up a little. Before she knew it, she was bobbing her head to the songs before finally a good one came on, and she grabbed her hairbrush and jumped on the bed to start singing.
Her roommates groaned, rolling their eyes. "Isis!" one even hissed, but she was too excited to let that get to her. She hopped down, declaring to the girl, who was also dateless, she was simply jealous that she was happy before putting on her shoes and heading downstairs. Fifteen minutes to go. Probably time to head down to the transformed Great Hall anyway. Maybe she could even squeeze in some time to mess with Aether, tease him for his dress robes, if they were bad enough. So, continuing her vibrant singing and dance moves, she made it down the stares, looking around for her brother and smirking when she spotted him. The song she was singing was getting to the "good part." She began to belt it out.
