8:50 p.m.
Justin lay on the ground, his clothing charmed to match the color of its surroundings and his face painted. On his face were green-rimmed glasses with white circles and a black dot in the center--magically charmed glasses used in much the same way as muggle binoculars and night vision goggles. Grinning, he looked over to the first year beside him who was dressed in much the same way, though he wore a helmet with twigs on it. "You got this, kid?" he asked, raising a brow at the new Hufflepuff who had wrongly trusted him as a mentor.
"Aye, a--" the kid began enthusiastically before realizing he was talking too loud and restarting in a hushed voice. "Aye, aye, Captain!" He gave a salute, and Justin chuckled beneath his breath.
"Careful, kid, you're practically selling the fact you're half-blood."
"Oh, right, sorry."
"S'ok. Just...go get 'em."
"Aye, a-- I mean, yes, sir..." Justin lifted his glasses and gave the kid, who was looking uncertain as to whether or not that gave him away, a wink, and the kid grinned before taking off his hat and the glasses and pulling the chocolate frog containers from his pockets. As he began to head on his merry way towards the gates, Justin uncharmed his clothing. The kid's face might have green camouflage stripes across it, but the guards would hopefully be far too distracted by the kid's actions to notice.
The plan was perfect. The Kid, so-called because he was a kid, would be the perfect distraction. Through his week of observation, he had noticed the majority of the guards at the gate were female, and it was them who had confiscated his elaborate kit of fireworks and other harmless explosives when each and every carriage had been stopped so the trunks and compartments could be checked for anyone or anything suspicious. Apparently his prank kit had caused his trunk to be deemed worthy of a thorough investigation, and before the girl he had ridden in with's very eyes, they had taken out all his clothing, prank items, and other items he had as a guy "just in case," and laid them out. By the time everything had been replaced in the trunk (minus his best items), he had been rather disgruntled. So much for the prank he had planned for the welcome feast. He had a reputation to live up to, and here they had come and dashed it.
But no matter. His week of observation and planning had allowed him to come up with none other than the best plan ever. It might not have been something as elaborate as what he had planned for the feast, but it was just enough to say, "Up yours!" to the guards, and to hell with the consequences! He already had been given and served a week's worth of detention for bringing such items to school despite the fact none of them (well, ok, except a few of the fireworks) were on the banned list for school. What was another week or two? So, he'd had an older friend carefully package some basics into a discreet package of a nature no one would check, and the planning had begun. The Kid had only become part of the plan last night after dinner when Justin found the kid lost and wandering the dungeons in search of their common room just past the kitchen.
With a smirk, he brought a hand up to his eyes to adjust the focus on the glasses. Perfect. The kid was sitting down on the grass just a few feet from the guards, who were looking at each other uncertainly. Probably wondering if their orders extended to keeping away even one so young, Justin figured. As soon as the kid was settled, he set down his chocolate frogs and picked one up to open it. He successfully ate that one and then another one before he looked towards where Justin was laying. Justin closed his eyes, put his face towards the ground and shook his head. Stupid kid. When he looked up, however, the boy was already walking up to the guard on the left and offering her a chocolate frog. She scowled and shooed him away, but the boy persisted.
That was his cue.
Justin got up from the grass, picking up the boy's glasses and shoving them in his pocket and taking off his own and shoving them in as well. He removed the charm from his clothes, looking over towards the gate to make sure the guards were both busy with the kid, who was now pretending (well, hopefully, only pretending; otherwise, he was as pathetic as the rest of the first years) to cry as one guard tossed the offered chocolate frog past the gates.
Once he was up, he ran over to the cornerstone of the castle, picking up his hidden bag and quickly setting up the fireworks. In an instant, a brilliant display of fireworks began to light the sky. Loud whistles accompanied with various other sounds meant to create chaos erupted as banshee-shaped creatures began to chase anything that moved nearby and sparkly butterflies began to surround other students. Others simply went up into the sky, forming varying shapes.
His work done, Justin began to walk about and become part of the crowd. There was no way he was being pegged with this. It was all just for the love of a little chaos and fun.
