The library. There wasn't anywhere else in the castle that was as silent, as allowing for solitude, as this place. Kitsune was always happiest here, since she knew she could usually hear people coming long before they actually came anywhere near her. And even if she was so caught up in her reading that she didn't notice them right away, she could always find a place to hide.
"Or let me out..."
The voice of her alternate personality, Kit, whispered from the back of her mind, sounding a little disgruntled. Kitsune's lips actually twitched, and she shook her head gently as thought Kit could actually see her.... which, in a way, he could.
Don't be silly, Kit, she told him in a thought, It takes too long to shift into you, if I'm not prepared... and if I'm wearing a skirt or something, you always protest...
"Of course I do! I'm a male, and males do not wear skirts!" Kitsune could practically feel Kit cross his arms across his chest in a disgruntled manner, but then she sensed his grin. "Unless they like to dress up. Or they're me, when I'm you."
Kitsune nearly laughed under her breath even as she sighed aloud, reaching for her book again to go back to reading, until, quite suddenly, she froze. The unmistakable sound of footsteps sent her heart into a flutter of panic, and she clutched her book to her chest, taking several hasty steps back in an attempt to at least find some shadows to find in.
A few seconds later, however, her back hit one of the bookshelves as she continued to move backwards, causing a loud bang as several of the book tumbled off onto the floor. Kitsune, nearly panicking, pressed herself backward farther into the bookshelf, trying to blend into the spines. The person would undoubtedly come to see what the noise was, now, and she had no time to escape.... or even to let Kit take control of the situation...
