November 6th, 11:20 am
The bride was getting dressed, the groom was rehearsing his vows and was in his tuxedo, and the officiant was returning from the hospital. Jake smirked as the mental checklist reached him. Nothing was wrong with him, but Gemma either was restraining a most glorious and powerful panic attack, or she still hadn't noticed that her engagement ring was missing. The band of gold and garnets was safely tucked into Jake's pocket. A box containing a plainer set of rings (already sized) was also in his pocket. These were to be his gift to the couple: His and Amelia's intended wedding rings. It would mean much to Gemma, and probably nothing to Orion.
Orion. That sad sap had acted like a lost puppy when Jake and Cedric finally got him seperated from Gemma. The panache, the confidence, the pride that straightened the boy's spine had apparently been whipped out of him by the labyrinth and his ordeals facing Jake. This change was fine with the Syndicate's sometimes bastard of a leader. Everyone underestimated how far he was willing to go to get what he wanted, but judging from the Death Eater whelp's fear of him, Orion wasn't ever going to forget the fear that Sullivan incurred.
Today wasn't about fear, though, Jake thought as he waved to a family preparing their lantern. Gemma had yet to see the traditional City wedding, and Jake thought she would be delighted with the ceremony. The boats were prepared, the food was ready for the reception afterward, and everything was in it's place. Ten minutes to go, and so far there wasn't a hitch to be had. Jake allowed himself a smug, self satisfied grin. With a few turns inside the Hub, he was back to his office where Cedric was straightening the orchids on Orion's corsage. The three of them, dressed in dapper tuxedos, shared a strained smile for a moment. Stoic though Sullivan and Burgess typically kept themselves, the infectious delight of the wedding was too much to resist.
"Alright then, lets get a move on then...to the boats, eh? And where is Maisie, Ced? She's acting ring bearer, isn't she?"
Cedric nodded an affirmation as he strode out, making Jake only slightly more exasperated. He needed to get to the center of the lake, soon. People were already leaving the dock in their boats to try and get a place. All the lights in the City would soon be extinguished, and Jake did not fancy trying to find his way to his place in the dark. Maisie was most likely with Gemma at this point. So, to that end, is where Jake headed. The preparation room wasn't far. Down the hall, two lefts, and a right, a knock, permission to enter granted, and he was in the presence of the bride herself and her entourage. Franco would be acting the roll of Father of the bride, presenting Gemma to the ceremony. For now, though, Jake had two things to do that were slightly above that in importance.
His warm smile, normally unused but familiar to his face all the same, beamed at Gemma as he walked towards her. Syl had made the dress beautiful with tailoring and fitting, Gemma made it stunning by wearing it. Maisie too, was dressed very nicely. Jake handed her the box with the rings, giving her a wink.
"Miss Soon-to-be-Burgess, you've forgotten something extremely important."
