Tuesday, November 15th, 1pm
The classroom was silent, if slightly musty. Hebron leaned against the dark wood desk that he'd spent the entire weekend cleaning. Who ever had taught here previously was a wretched slob. At the periphery of the room, Janus busied himself straightening the display boxes that had been used in his first year class before lunch. Up next were sixth years. Their lesson would be deceptively simple, and had already been prepared.
The lunch hour ended, and students began filing into the class room. Janus took a seat on a stool behind Hebron's desk while the professor himself went to the chalkboard. In broad, smooth strokes, he wrote his name on the board. He turned and surveyed the mostly apathetic teenagers, then began on his talk. He paced the front of the room as he talked. He was as restless as a shark, and carried the same 'don't fool with me' attitude.
"Good afternoon. My name is Hebron James, as I am quite sure you can read. Following Professor Blackthorne's departure, I have stepped up to fill the role as your educator in defense against the Dark Arts. I was left no information regarding what you have studied. To that end, I believe that today will be as good as any to cover curses and counter curses. I will give you a short lecture, and then a practical period to apply what you have learned. Mundane objects can be imbued with magical properties that can be used as a delayed attack. These objects naturally gain a fame and notoriety all on their own. The most famous, of course, being the Hope Diamond. If you were to peruse the list of objects that carry a curse, you will notice that the majority of them are gem stones. Can someone give me a guess as to why that may be?"
He stopped his pacing in the middle of the room and turned towards the class, leaning forward slightly. He obviously expected an answer, and was eager to receive it.
