December 27th, 10:00pm - December 28th, 12:00pm
Pandora's head hurt. One moment she wasn't aware of it, wasn't aware of anything, and then suddenly, her head hurt. She felt... heavy, as well, as though she was buried under something... sand, maybe, or gravel. Maybe she was entirely under the earth? ... buried alive?
It was certainly dark enough...
She found herself gradually coming more into awareness about the sensation: it couldn't be sand or gravel she was under, or even the earth, because whatever it was covering her was... soft. Almost like a blanket, if blankets could be made of lead. And other parts of her hurt besides her head, as well: her neck felt dreadfully stiff, and her back and hips and legs felt as though they hadn't been moved in ages...
... why is it so dark?
She struggled against the feeling of being weighed down, wanting badly to open her eyes, to see the world around her. Vision was the main sense the young Seeker used to explore the world, after all... if she could see, she could figure out where she was, and why everything hurt so much. It became apparent after several minutes -- which felt more like several hours -- however, that even if her eyes were open, there was nothing to see but darkness.
... either that, or her eyes weren't working.
That can't be right...
She managed to open her mouth -- she was sure about its being open, unlike her eyes -- and attempted to make a sound, but for the first time she became aware that her throat felt... funny. Dry, like it too hadn't been used in ages. She attempted to clear it and met with some success, but the voice that escaped her afterwards still sounded horribly hoarse, and was nearly inaudible in volume.
"H-hello? I-is anyone there?"
She waited, being as still and quiet as she could, hoping to catch a reply, but none came. Only after she had repeated the question two more times was there an answer, and that was in the form of brisk footsteps.
"You're awake, dear?" The woman's voice sounded oddly... shocked, as though the fact that Pandora was awake was the strangest thing she'd ever seen.
"Aye..." Pandora tried once more to open her eyes, to see, only to once again fail. "W-where... where 'm I? A-and why can't I see?"
"It's alright, dear, just relax," the woman, whoever she was, told her, and Pandora nearly jumped out of her skin at the feeling of a hand touching her arm. She hadn't known the woman was that close... Bugger this not being able to see!
"But... where am I? I-I can't see..."
"You... had a bit of a fall," the woman explained quietly, sounding rather hesitant, as though she didn't really think it was a good idea to be saying this, "You hit your head... Pandora, is it?" Pandora managed to nod, her throat constricting. She remembered falling, but not very well... she remembered holding Justin's hand, but she hadn't known where she was then, either...
... and that was all. After that, she'd found herself here. Wherever "here" was.
"You're in St. Mungos," the woman told her, and Pandora found that even if she couldn't see, she could still cry...
She slept, after that, thanks to a potion the woman -- who had turned out to be a Healer -- had given her. Real sleep, rather than the coma they had apparently had to put her in, to "protect her mind." The Healer hadn't been able to answer why it was that Pandora couldn't see, except to say that "We've not finished repairing the damage yet, dear... but I'm sure we'll sort you out soon!"
That wasn't all that reassuring, especially when waking up again produced the same result as it had the first time: she couldn't see, no matter how hard she tried, and she felt sore all over, as though she'd not moved in forever. Which was apparently somewhat true; a Healer – a different one from before, this one's voice identified him as male – told her that she'd been out since the 23rd, and it was the 28th, now. Five days of being completely still... how would she not feel stiff?
But the not being able to see... that was an entirely different cauldron of slugs, that was.
”When do you think I'll be better?” she asked the male Healer after he'd explained to her about how long she'd been “asleep,” sitting up awkwardly in her bed while another Healer helped her prepare to stand, ”I need to get back to school...”
”You're going to be on a potion regimen for a while – I'd estimate two months – to continue the healing of your vision centers. You should notice improvement over that period, but you might not for the first month.” Pandora's throat tightened, and she swallowed hard, even as the other Healer took her arm and prompted her to get up. It felt so strange to be standing on her own two feet, but to need someone to guide her so that she wouldn't run into anything. Even being blindfolded wasn't like this, because that was just a game; eventually, the thing would come off, and she could laugh with her friends over how many things she'd tripped over. This time... this time, there was no blindfold to take off. There would be no laughter, either...
”... will I have to stay here that entire time?” she asked hesitantly, trying desperately to keep her voice from wobbling. She was acting like a child, letting her emotions get the best of her... she would have to do better than this!
”No, you'll actually be going back today,” the male Healer told her, apparently following as the other Healer led her slowly over to where she could use the loo and get washed up, ”Your school Healer, Madam Nakano, will be taking charge of your care, now that you've passed the point of danger. Someone is supposed to come and get you within a few hours... I recommend you try and eat, and maybe get some more rest, before then...” Pandora flinched when his hand touched her arm; she hadn't known how close he was. ”You'll get better, Pandora, don't worry. It just won't be perhaps as fast as you're wanting. Just... try to be patient, and it will go by in no time, eh?” She nodded stiffly, and apparently he left, because the other Healer began making preparations to help her shower.
I need help for things like this now... she thought, once she was under the spray of the water, being instructed how to wash herself by the other Healer, who was apparently female, But... who's going to help me when I'm at school?” She wasn't really sure she wanted help like this from just anyone. But she would need help, that was for sure.... the fact that she'd already dropped or knocked over three things since getting into the shower was proof of that.
Guess I'll find out who my friends really are...
