The harsh, unforgiving cold of winter has long set in. Snow covers the ground and students tend find things to do inside as much as possible. With the Yule Ball fast approaching, students certainly have things to discuss and plan.

Politically, things are nowhere near as sound as people are lead to believe. There is turmoil amongst the ranks of the Death Eaters as Callid Warren and Fierro Darque plot against Trevor Williams, who is aided by Sienna Faber, but can she be trusted? Even amongst the people, there seems to be social unrest as SAVIOR works to free slaves and the leader of the Order of the Phoenix finds himself captured. Unification is necessary, but will it happen?

Playable: 17-31 December 2010

Liam hadn't arrived yet. Kara was running the bar on her own tonight, and that was fine since it was slow. Monday nights didn't bring in that much business, even for a muggle pub, so Liam was probably in no hurry to relieve his bartender for the moment. She sighed with little content behind it, bored by the tedium of cleaning up after the drunks. These were the sloppy ones, too. Kara yawned, and couldn't help but wonder what might be happening on the other side of the spectrum, in her world.

Things flipped upside down the day Casey left her. Yes, she'd lost him to Evie as it were, then lost him after Hogwarts was ambushed, but just because 'third time's a charm' doesn't mean it didn't hurt. The fact that she didn't get to see him face to face was what pierced her sharply, and the twist of the knife this time was that he sent her a message with his Patronus. What the hell was wrong with her luck? First she gets dumped by Jaleth in the rain, in front of the other woman. Now this? Didn't she deserve to see him? Didn't she deserve one more hug, kiss, or glance even? Kara was disgusted with her life, always on the run, always helping those who were strong enough to help themselves, and for what? Upholding her birthfather's legacy? She hadn't even known him and he was holding this over her head. Maintaining a love life without the love? No that couldn't be it either. She was just far too unlucky.

Goodness, she thought to herself, realizing that this was the sole reason why she'd taken the job in the first place. It was a muggle hideout, and she would use a polyjuice to disguise herself if she thought she was in danger. Liam allowed her to store some in the back, bless his heart, hidden in a safe place in case one of the muggles decided to wander into his personal room and snag a bottle thinking it was wine or something. No, she knew it tasted far from the relaxing hops of ale or the bittersweetness of a chardonnay. Polyjuice often left a nasty aftertaste and she refrained from using it, unless she absolutely had to. Those who frequented the bar knew her well enough, and if there was going to be a raid she would know.

She was safe here. Kara was almost always safe when Liam was around, and she knew he was going to try his hardest to keep her safe. Sliding another mug down the bar and taking a seat on the stool, Kara tried to focus on two things: the bookkeeping that needed to be done, and the fact that she was meeting two people here very soon. One, a brother whom she'd only seen once in the past few months, the man she locked lips with secretly in his office at the school...and the other the sister who had just checked in to the safehouse, Tutaminis. She wasn't sure how long it had been since the two had seen each other, and tonight was a good night to try to reunite the separated siblings.

Tonight had to be good. She needed it.

It was windy and overcast. Usually 'Lana liked it that way, but not when she was traveling in her animal form. Sure, it took more energy to use her bird form, but it was a lot faster for her since she was already late. As per usual, she knew Kara would say, but it didn't matter. Her friend said around eight so this was as close as it would get, as far as 'Lana's punctuality would go. It surprised her that Kara wanted to meet at all, especially since they hadn't seen each other since she enlisted herself at Tutaminis. 'Lana had it all laid out in her head that she wanted to thank her friend for a great place to stay, then scold the hell out of her because she's felt nothing but useless since she arrived.

'Lana landed softly in a darkened alleyway and transformed into her human body, when she was sure there were no muggles snooping around. She vowed not to make the change in front of unknowing eyes if she could help it, and it was something she held onto with a vice grip.

The Abby was just across the street from where she was, and she could already see her best friend jotting stuff down on the books. She huffed a soft chuckle and darted across the quiet street, pushing past the heavy door and smiling. "Sorry I'm late." 'Lana stated with a grin, shaking off her heavy overcoat and hanging it on the hook near the door. "Traffic's way insane, y'know?" That's of course, if her friend would buy it...and of course, she wouldn't. Kara was well aware of her form, as the animagus would recall revealing that to her dark-haired friend back at Hogwarts as it was quite the discovery.

The blond Lenor girl was already around the counter and wrapping her arms around her good friend when the inhabitants of the Abby pub commenced to stare. Muggles, all of them. 'Lana realized she hadn't seen so many muggles since she left Russia. "But now that I'm here, I'll take a pint. What have you been up to, my dear? Do tell me everything, it's been far too long!"

"My goodness, you are looking well, love."Kara's eyes moved from the book to the woman with flowing blond hair in the doorway. She remembered how 'Lana loved to make an entrance wherever she would go, and it was proof that old ways were hard to shake. The pen she was using to write with had fallen out of her hand and she was on her feet, returning the embrace that her friend had initiated. She pulled away and moved over to the tap to pour her friend a mug of ale and had it to her in no time, realizing that she had not changed one bit. 'Lana was always so beautiful, and it was quite apparent now that they'd had a chance to grow up a bit, both physically and mentally it would seem.

"Well as you can see I am working in the muggle world." Kara whispered to her friend softly, keeping as much of any mention of the magical community out of earshot. "Liam's gone out for a while, but he should be back soon. Have a seat." Motioning toward the end of booths in a quiet corner away from the rest of the customers, Kara slyly let her friend lead the way. "I'm sure he'll be delighted to see you. It's been just as long for the two of you than it has for us, I'm sure. Thanks for coming on short notice, though. It's great to finally get to see you."

Chuckling nervously, Kara tried not to let one of her tells give her away. The truth was, she was going to have Jaleth come by tonight. Kara held on to a mug of ale she had poured for herself and followed the blond one to the booth. Then, she was struck with a strange feeling. She suddenly couldn't focus. Whatever plan she had to maintain any means of calm in her mind had dissipated and she was now panicking. What if's clouded her thoughts: what if Jaleth hates her? What if Elana hates her? What if they destroy the bar tonight before Liam gets here? What if Liam sees Jaleth here?

...Oh dear... Why didn't she think of that before? Why did she have to give in to her womanly impulse to 'fix' things? Liam was going to be pissed, Jaleth was going to have a field day and 'Lana might just tear her to shreds. At least she had her wand. That's all she needed. She gulped.

And she had no idea what little time would pass until he arrived.

If Elana was fashionably late, then Jaleth wasn't even close to that. It must run in the family. Jaleth traveled so little out of the confines of the school these days that it was almost strange to be out and about, much less among muggles. His steps carried him along at a steady pace, through the weather that generally seemed to match his mood. This encounter, though, was a little different. Oh, he didn't look any different in physical appearance, but within there was a bit of a battle raging. He should be here. Kara had sent word, had asked to meet...and of course, he couldn't say no. He wanted to see her. This was a little foolish though...or downright stupid. Dangerous, even. Yet, here he was, making his way into some muggle-filled area.

J didn't attract the same kind of attention as his prettier sibling. Indeed, if the muggles looked at him, it wasn't for long. His features were dark, drawn out, as if daring someone to look too long, to stare too much. The years did not hang so well on this Lenor as it did his sister. There was an uncomfortable shifting of the folks closest him, who busily and purposefully returned to their conversation. It was in his own, shifting motions, that he saw her. Kara, at least. Elana had managed to elude his gaze just yet.

Crossing the bar with purpose, now, he locked in on that familiar, shapely form, the traveling cloak that covered his form swishing about him as he moved. For some reason, his hand held tight to his wand beneath, as if something in his being felt something was amiss. It was just all of the people, he thought. Just this place. Kara had summoned him, and he'd answer the call. Why, he didn't know...but he knew he wouldn't, or couldn't, say no. Even their brief meeting all that time ago had livened him up, so to speak, and such encounters were not to be missed.

"Kara..." The voice was familiar, if not dark and changed. Kara would now recognize it...but would Elana? What type of shock would Jaleth have at seeing her? Would they recognize one another? Embrace? Fight?

‘Lana’s eyes narrowed as she took a sip of the ale given to her. The juice tasted so good to her, so refreshing, considering that she hadn’t had something to drink like this for quite some time. However, its hops were not alluring enough to distract her from the big picture. Kara summoned her here, but for what? No, a reunion couldn’t be the only reason. She knew her friend was far too clever. The animagus smiled brightly at Kara. ”Of course. Why would I turn down a drink, especially with a good friend?”

Paranoia swept over her briefly, and ‘Lana took a good luck around at the few faces that littered the room. Good thing they were all muggles. It would be a waste to have to kill someone because they caught sight of her face. But this place belonged to a fellow wizard, Liam, so there was surely some sort of protection spell over this area, or at least a backup plan in case they were tracked somehow. Nevertheless, ‘Lana kept her guard up, in case something were to happen.

And something did.

There was a presence standing behind her, just over her shoulder. This was a voice she hadn’t heard for years, a voice she didn’t expect to hear in her life ever again, yet here it was. It belonged to her brother Jaleth. There was now a battle going on of her, her heart falling to the floor, her stomach spinning faster than a top thrown at full speed. She gulped and felt her eyes widen til they could no longer, staring at Kara in disbelief. ”You didn’t…” ‘Lana spoke softly, for Kara’s ears only.

As she turned and looked upon the face she expected to see as her brother’s, she realized that he had the same gaunt that he had all those years ago, though age and experiences had taken somewhat of a toll on him. He was still handsome, of course, a trait he’d inherited from their father, but ‘Lana could see that time, stress, depression and everything he could’ve possibly gone through after his wife’s demise was showing on his face. ‘Lana could feel her heart racing inside her chest, as she looked between her brother and her trickster ‘friend’. Was this supposed to be some sort of joke?

Kara's hands were bound together on the table before them, her mind fixated on the position of her wand in case she needed to take it out and wield it at any moment's notice. She gulped, inaudibly she hoped, as she looked between the siblings with wide-eyes. She noted that 'Lana looked less than ecstatic to see her brother as she was to be in the middle of it, but Kara knew this was inevitable. They had to speak sometime. So why not speed up that process?

Rising from her seat, Kara reached out to embrace her former beloved briefly and she set a hand behind his back and reached out to gesture towards her side of the booth so he would have a seat. "Thank you for coming, Jaleth." She spoke softly, meekly, and warily. It was already nerve-wrecking to have 'Lana's piercing eyes boring holes into her as the moments passed.

Locking 'Lana in the booth by shoving herself in next to her, Kara looked at the two of them and took a deep breath. "Okay look. I'm so sorry for tricking you both here, but the truth is I really did want to see you guys. It's been hard lately, since he's left, and with everything falling into place we need to keep our dear ones close." Kara spoke quietly, and didn't realize she hadn't revealed to either of them of Casey's disappearance. It was the truth that he'd left her, sending his patronus to deliver the dreadful news, and it was the truth she wanted to see them both, reunite them and mend their burnt bridges.

"It was bloody treacherous of me, I know...but I just need this to stop. You two are siblings for Merlin's sake, you need to talk out whatever you have with each other before it's too late. I wish I at least had that chance to talk to my parents before they..." She faded out, in a daze. "Well something bad happened. You both know the story. Please don't stay pissed off at me about this, there are issues to be laid out. We need to figure this all out. We all know you both are too stubborn to admit that on your own. This is me, doing you guys a favor."

Her words spilled out like an uncontrollable faucet. Maybe it was her nerves, but deep down, the scarred one truly cared about her friends, especially since they were the only immediate family left. Kara wasn't about to sit back and let them break their bonds forever.
