The harsh, unforgiving cold of winter has long set in. Snow covers the ground and students tend find things to do inside as much as possible. With the Yule Ball fast approaching, students certainly have things to discuss and plan.

Politically, things are nowhere near as sound as people are lead to believe. There is turmoil amongst the ranks of the Death Eaters as Callid Warren and Fierro Darque plot against Trevor Williams, who is aided by Sienna Faber, but can she be trusted? Even amongst the people, there seems to be social unrest as SAVIOR works to free slaves and the leader of the Order of the Phoenix finds himself captured. Unification is necessary, but will it happen?

3:17 p.m.

Her heart pounded in her chest, the blood roaring past her pulsing ears, and her chest heaved as she ran, cradling her arm and limping, stumbling here and there in the wet, icy snow. Tears stung her cheek as she made a mad dash for the hedges before stopping a moment to catch her breath. This had to be done. Everyone had to know that Damien was gone. He had left earlier this morning with her to search for her father, but they had been ambushed. It had been dangerously near the wizarding part of town when he had been spotted and nabbed. The attacker had left her with minimal injuries, yelling at her to return and tell everyone else before he changed his mind. And now, Nadia felt like beating herself up for this. If she hadn't mentioned wanting to search for her parents despite knowing it was impossible, then Damien would still be here with her, but he had tried to be nice, said that he would look for her father with her since she didn't have a wand. Yes, he knew the possible outcome, but still, did that make it right? They should never have left the safe house. It was...well, it was safe there.

After a few moments, she rushed through the maze. Damien had always tried to insist people shouldn't memorize the way in, but she was a quick study despite how few times she had been outside of it and the safety of the manor. She rushed through, having to stop at intersections and look around to figure out where she was in the twisting muse before making it through to the door mazes, which she made through quickly, heading straight for the Corporum Building where she figured everyone would be sitting before the fire trying to keep warm in the cold building. It took her a few minutes to reach her destination, and she limped closer, panting as she stared at everyone, struggling not to collapse from the sheer exhaustion of such a run in the bitter cold when she never did such a thing. Finally, she felt like she could speak, but the words sounded foreign and quiet even to her own self. "He..." she began, avoiding eye contact with people as she grasped her injured arm a little tighter, wincing, "he's gone." She paused, daring to look around. "Damien's gone."

Kara was standing at her perch, near the window, staring inside, into the hypnotizing flame. The outside of the building was cold, but it was at least quiet out here, save the few souls actually hanging out here as well, some smoking, others playing with the snow. She was slowly dozing off, exhaustion taking its toll on her body. That‘s what 3 hours of sleep in the past two days could do to you.

Kara wasn't even supposed to be there that day. Where she should've been standing (or preferably, sitting) was in Damien's office, waiting for him to return, waiting for his answer about her plan. This plan was perfect. The plan she devised was to take a polyjuice, and under the disguise of a wandering Death Eater, learn the floor plan of Azkaban and the Williams’ compound, if she got that far. That way, she’d relay the intel back to those who were willing, and they would plan an attack against Williams, finally. No harm, no foul. It had been way too long since the Order was reconstructed and they haven’t seen a drop of action. Kara was far too tired of being caged, going out for those stupid supply runs. She wanted to ambush Damien as soon as he got back, then he had no choice but to answer her.

Her head jerked back up as she caught herself falling asleep, her cheeks flushing a bit, and she wondered if anyone even saw her. She eyed the sun, judging the time by its position. Her eyes searched through the chilly, winter air. It was too quiet, an eerie sign, a bad omen. There was a light howl on the wind and the mazes began to shift with the moving air. Wasn’t Damien supposed to be here by now?

Then, in a stumbling, muttering mess, came her answer. The usually quiet one, Nadia, had returned, coming through the mazes like a bat out of you-know-where, or at least, as fast as one could move in this weather. She said something to one of the other inhabitants who was standing around, so Kara moved closer to investigate. She looked panicked. She looked terrified, and injured. The scarred one raised an eyebrow, her eyes widening at the sight of the poor girl with her wound. ”Nadia? What’s going on? Where’s Damien?”

Everything happens for a reason. Kara hated saying that to herself, she hated hearing it said to her by other people, but it was true. As much as she wanted to be hanging around in Damien’s office, something compelled her to be here. And this was it. Had she been elsewhere, inside even, at this moment, she wouldn’t have heard it firsthand.

”Damien’s gone.”

There was maybe a blink of an eye as this settled in, and then everyone started to speak. Voices were being raised, elevating quickly from whispers, to speaking, to yelling, almost screaming. Then it was all a chorus of discordant chaos. People from the warm confines of the Corporum building began to spill out, most wearing faces of confusion, wondering what sort of ruckus was going on outside. She listened as the news had spread like wildfire, just as they say it does. People started crying, yelling, getting angry, worried…it was just a mess.

Kara was frozen for a moment as she heard the news, her heart sinking as low as it could fall inside her chest. The Order had no leader. Oh, Merlin. She gulped.

Putting out the cigarette and crushing the butt to dust as she usually did, 'Lana thrust herself toward the growing crowd in the open area before the entrance. There was a lot of screaming going on, and she couldn't help but notice the people crying (she hated seeing people cry) and with a puzzled look on her own face, she tried to figure out what was happening. Turning to the side, she saw her good friend Kara in the midst of the commotion and recognized that woman, Nadia, gripping her arm standing beside her. Maybe those two would know what was going on, she nodded to herself, taking note that Kara was one of the few quiet ones in all of the mess.

Fighting through the huddled masses, Lana finally reached Kara and gripped her by the forearms. She shook her gently, trying to catch her attention, trying to lock her eyes into Kara's. "Hey. K, what's going on? K?!" It was like her friend's eyes had glazed over, she was in some sort of trance. "Kara, talk to me..."

But the voices were too much. People were pushing, pulling, weeping, everything...she couldn't concentrate. 'Lana had to do something to cease this cluster of pandemonium. Quickly, she put her forefinger and thumb to her lips and blew as hard as she could, and a loud, nails-on-a-chalkboard like whistle cut through the crowded air. Then there was silence. Everyone who was shouting had stopped to see who was calling their attentions. Wails became sobs and everything, as she wished, was quiet.

'Lana would be the only voice heard for now. Though most of these fugitives were not a part of the Order of the Phoenix, there was still 'order' to uphold. She would not let whatever news had arrived ruin that. "Now. If I might ask. What in the hell is going on?" Her eyes narrowed at the silent one, who had been holding on to her wound. 'Lana put a comforting arm around Kara.

The Abby was slow for the day, so Liam had decided to leave. The secondary bartender, and his good friend, Burton was on duty and he knew everything was safe in his hands, so Liam knew it would be alright for a day off. What he didn't expect was the ruckus at Tutaminis, right at the entrance. It was sure as hell a pain in the ass to go through the mazes, but he knew it was a safety precaution to have them, so he walked through them, though impatiently, every time. It was a pleasant surprise to see Kara there, and her friend 'Lana, but the situation looked anything but comfortable.

There was another girl, he noticed, the 'quiet one', she'd been dubbed. At least, that's what his fugitive friends and fellow Order members were calling her. Natalie or Nadia or something? Liam's footsteps crunched in the snow, heavily, and loudly, disturbing whatever eerie silence had befallen them. He cleared his throat softly, to notify Kara that he had arrived, and gave a solemn, and confused nod to 'Lana. "'Scuse me." he said in a hushed voice, making his way to stand beside Kara in the apparent skirmish.

His late entrance made him a little embarrassed. He'd never come to Tutaminis Alone, and he hated the fact that he came into the middle of some sort of scuffle. The bartender studied everyone carefully. Their eyes were all fixated on that shy girl, who looked hurt. As much as he wanted to jump up and see what he could do to help her, Liam hesitated and put a concerned hand to Kara's shoulder. She would know what was going on, right? Someone had to fill him in.

The afternoon was hot. The wind was blowing softly, rustling the sheer curtains that hung dreamily over the four poster bed. It was a nice time to be in the Caribbean, and Jonathan knew exactly that when he booked this place for his honeymoon. The atmosphere, although rather hot for his tastes, was wonderful, the scenery was wonderful, and most importantly, the woman that was lying beside him naked, except for the conveniently placed blanket that enveloped her, was the woman he'd loved and the woman he was grateful to have.

He gave a heavy sigh of sheer content, and kept himself propped up on his elbow. Jonathan was lying comfortably on his side, keeping his body close to hers. Gently, he stroked the exposed skin of her back.

"Baby..." She softly moaned under his touch.

Reality.
It was quite bitter, compared to the place he was resting in his head. There was no heat, but the stinging of the ice cold weather. There were no smells of the fresh sea, but the burning embers and smoke from the lit fireplace. He was not in the Caribbean, not with the woman he loved so much, with all of his being. No. Jonathan was actually in Tutaminis, upstairs, in the WC, staring at himself in the mirror.

Just a dream. Another daydream. Jonathan had been having way too many of those lately for his own good, he was sick of the fact that he kept thinking about her, even though she was long gone. His ex-wife had such a hold on him, it seemed. No matter how much he did to busy his mind, she managed to slither into his reveries. That's what they did, right? Those sneaky, cunning Slytherin, with their snake-like ways. Jonathan sighed. He was so many years out of Hogwarts, but his family had such a strong hold on their school-yard beliefs.

'All Slytherin are evil. All Ravenclaws are intelligent. All Gryffindor are..' (yada-yada-yada). He was sick of it. The segregation was probably the one thing that pissed him off about that school. Sure, Jonathan understood the whole teamwork part that went with belonging to a House. But when a trend started forming with each house and it was apparent that whatever house you belonged to stuck with you til the day you no longer walked the earth (or for some, beyond that). Jonathan hated that. He hated that one of the reasons why he'd gotten divorced with his wife was because of some stupid traditional lifestyle, her coming from a Slytherin family. Screw tradition. Screw all of it. He missed her so much, it was almost painful.

Splashing some water on his face, he looked up at himself in the mirror once again. There was a beat of silence, and then the voices rose. He overheard some sort of commotion coming from outside. The window to the right of him was propped open slightly and he pushed it further to see the gathered masses of the fugitives, Order members, and one of the girls who had just arrived through the mazes looked hurt. He was immediately interested in this scenario. It was quite a surprise to see anything happening at the manor at all, as it had been so boring and quiet for so long. He had just come home from visiting his parents in Australia, and there was hardly anything to do here at Tutaminis except for those damn supply runs. He was bored, and there was something happening now. But that something did not look good.

Moving at a brisk, but not running, pace, Jonathan threw on his coat and huddled himself outside into the madness. He was hoping they would tone it down a bit so he could actually hear what was going on. He saw 'Lana try to shut everybody up, so the wounded one could speak. He stood just a few paces away from the crowd, and waited patiently.

Being in the safehouse during winter made Ben feel even more trapped than ever. That feeling was the whole reason he chose not to permanently live here. He couldn't stay away forever, however. His parents and brother insisted on frequent visits so they knew he was still alive. Honestly, did they forget that he was the Benjamin Turner? Noone could best him! The biggest reason for his returns to this place was Zippy: his little chihuahua that had stolen the hearts of dozens here at the manor. Ben didn't get to spend as much time with the little guy as he would have liked to, so he made sure to make his way back here whenever he could. The pup was overjoyed every time Ben made a return appearance and Ben equally so.

With the weather in its current condition, and with such a thin layer of fur, the coldness tended to bother Zippy. Therefore, someone here at the manor had taken the time to knit him a little sweater with the image of a penguin on the back. It was quite adorable, but Ben wanted to be sure the little bugger was as warm as he could be. That's why he'd brought him to the Corporum building where the pup immediately proceeded to curl up in front of the fireplace. Ben stood back a distance and watched, lost in his own thoughts.

That's when it happened. At that very instant, Nadia came bursting into the building. She was battered, bruised, and quite worse for the wear. She trudged up to Damien and a few others in the room and paused for a moment, clearly in some sort of state of shock. When she finally muttered out what exactly had happened, a wave of shock flew through the growing crowd of people.

"He's gone... Damien's gone."

Damien, gone? Where had he gone? He never left this place... especially not with such a big hit on his head. Gone... gone... what did she mean gone? Was he just headed somewhere, on a secret solo mission or something? Surely she didn't mean gone as in... no that wasn't possible. Damien was fine, he had to be. Ben wanted to leave this mess, get out there searching now. He wanted to find Damien and bring him back. That's exactly what he'd do. But where was he? He needed more information. He needed to know where to look.

People were gathering all around now and an incessant drone of babble shortly followed. People started yelling questions at the girl, demanding to know what was going on. Nadia had always been the quiet type, and Damien enjoyed making her feel slightly uncomfortable by trying to engage in conversation with her. This was not the time for her to feel any more uncomfortable, however. Raising his voice, he quickly shouted out "Quiet everyone! Let her speak." He then turned back to Nadia, attempting to be as calm and clear as possible. "Now, Nadia, tell us: Where is Damien?"

Lucy && Isabella

Winslow

[justify]Winter was one of Lucy's favorite times of the year. Keeping her daughter warm, however, was not one of her favorite activities. So, when Ben had shown up today with Zippy in tow, the woman was overjoyed as almost instantaneously, her daughter's fussing and sniffling ceased as the puppy caught her eye. "Dow', mummy. 'abella want dow'." Lucy sighed, and brought her legs out from under her as she lifted her daughter and set her down, standing as the toddler clumsily made her way to Zippy. She glanced and Ben and gave him a small smile in greeting. The man was an interesting one, to say the least. However, before she could even verbally greet him, Nadia stumbled in almost at the same time as the dog firmly barked and Bella started crying. Sighing and rolling her eyes a bit, she walked over and scooped up her daughter, making sure there weren't any bite marks before telling her, "You're alright, sweetie," and rocking her a little while rubbing her back as her daughter rested her head on her shoulder.

After Bella had calmed down enough, Lucy joined the crowd, having missed what was said, but everyone else seemed to join in the confusion, demanding the timid, cornered girl to tell them what she had just said and what had happened. She felt sorry for her, but hey, speak out, and maybe she wouldn't be asked to repeat. She watched as the girl backed against the wall, pressing her back against it as she clutched her arm a little more tightly. Great, they were never going to get an answer out of her at this rate. However, Ben seemed to have taken charge, which was good. The girl's eyes flicked over at him uncertainly and then at the ground. Lucy stood in expectation, telling Bella quietly, "No," as she tried to pull her shirt down, which earned a near panic attack from the toddler. Her mother absently tried to calm her, watching the girl and trying to refrain from yelling at her for being so damn shy. How on earth had she made it this far in life like that? Had to suck. Majorly.

But finally, she spoke. "I-I don't...I-I--With them," she stammered out, seeming a little surprised by her own volume. "Th-they just...." She looked around, looking down again and cradling her injured arm closer to her body. "We were...And then...Gone!" She quieted, trying to focus on breathing. Too many people. Way too many people. Demanding people, unhappy people, frightened people...maybe. It made them dangerous, but she could hardly think straight with all of them there. At least that one man...Ben, wasn't it? had quieted them, but she didn't think they would remain silenced, not when they wanted answers.

With all the chaos happening, and her friend shaking her slightly, Kara's eyes blankly stared as she did a mental roll-call. Aside from her and Nadia, members present were: 'Lana, Liam, Ben Turner, Jon Partridge, Lucy Winslow and her baby Bella, and other well-known faces in the order had appeared for this unusual convention. There had to be something gone terribly wrong. Sure, Tutaminis was a 'safe' place to be, but when heavy-hitting, high-bountied heads are standing next to each other in a courtyard screaming chaos, Kara felt nothing but ill feelings about this situation. She gulped.

"I'm fine, 'Lana...Just...confused." Kara finally spoke up to her best friend, as she nodded at her. She patted her on the hand to give her some comfort and turned to listen in on what was happening.

"Gone? What do you mean, gone?!" Alameda Travers, one of the elderly women who'd been living at Tutaminis under Order protection since Derrin White's attack, spoke up from where she stood. "You were with him. Be more specific, tell us what happened!"

Kara's eyes immediately fell upon the crone's face. She took a deep breath, listened as others were starting to get riled up again and she shook her head. "Yelling isn't going to get us anywhere, Mrs. Travers. With all due respect, I don't think that screaming at the poor girl is going to make anything better."

There was a heavy silence that rested upon the gathered mass like a thick wool blanket. Boldly, the woman who had remained silent for quite some time, the scarred-faced Kara, stepped forward, a little bit towards Nadia with a little hesitation. No, she hadn't particularly known the girl very well, mostly because she knew Nadia was introverted, she was quiet, and Kara interacted with the higher-ups, the runners, and those who'd known her as at the magic school. It wasn't that she disliked any of the Order members or fugitives, but balancing time between social life and her work life/protecting the people was quite difficult. Still, Kara felt like she had a pretty healthy network of friends, and she was grateful for that fact.

Kara watched as Alameda cringed, backing up into the crowd that stood behind her, a stubborn and dumbfounded look worn on her face. Maybe she hadn't been put in her place before, Kara wondered, quite amused at this thought. But they were all waiting for something else to be said, and with a nod to both 'Lana and Liam, she spoke.

"They say to kill the serpent, you must cut off his head. Mostly, we've said that against Williams, but it seems that fortune frowned upon us today. Damien is gone, and that is what we know right now. Unless you let the girl speak, that is all we are going to know. Do not badger her, do not bother her, and most importantly, stop screaming at her, as that will more than likely cause her to dilute or discard the recollection of his disappearance." The Order was without a leader, but someone had to step in. Kara did not want this position, but for now, she needed to keep the Order, their fugitives, and other alliance forces on the same page. She braced herself for what was to come, whether it be a spit in the face and a 'who voted you leader?', or a pat on the back for her efforts. But the Order was not going to fail or falter. She had to uphold this inheritance.

It is what Damien would have done. It is what her father would have done. Kara knew that this is what she had to do.

"Now. Nadia. Tell us what happened. Tell us what you saw, and leave nothing out." The people had the right to know.

Silence became their virtue. 'Lana was proud that her friend was taking charge, as she expressed by wearing a smirk on her face. It had been a while since she'd seen Kara speak so authoritatively, and rightfully so. The Order was now in chaos, shattered by the few words that Nadia did speak, announcing the unexpected snatching of their leader, Damien. 'Lana hadn't spoken to Noland all that much, but she knew that he was important, a great leader and influence, and needed to maintain such balance in their circle of fugitives and Order members, as well as any supporters they might have rounded up in the past few years of rebuilding.

It was only a matter of time before things got all shook up with the two battling powers. Of course, 'Lana and the rest of them wished something happened to Williams' side of things, rather than theirs, but such was fate. It reared its ugly head and made a quick swipe at them from its perch, leaving them a shambles, running around like a chicken with its head cut off, or something to that extent, however the Americans described it. It was going to be a task to keep everyone together, but 'Lana knew that she would have to help Kara, or any of the other strong-willed, head-on-straight members of this shaken up faction keep everything intact.

If Damien was still alive, plans would have to be made for his rescue, and 'Lana planned on being a part of it.

"You were with him. Be more specific, tell us what happened!"

As the elderly woman shouted at her, Nadia seemed to try to melt into the wall, visibly shrinking and looking down, her extremities shaking, though with the fact that her arms were held so close to her body, it was hard to tale. The young woman, however, was terrified, and it wasn't hard to tell. She didn't look too terribly relieved when Kara stepped in to defend her even if it did temporarily take most of the eyes off of her, but just as quickly, she was being asked to give a detailed account of what happened, and she wasn't entirely certain what to do. Large groups weren't her thing and never had been. She had always preferred to go unnoticed, but she was beginning to see how much of an impossibility this was proving to be in this situation. Everyone around her was anxious to know. She just wished she could be questioned one on one. It would make it at least somewhat easier, but no.

It took a few more moments in which her eyes shifted from the floor to the elderly woman who had impatiently yelled only a few moments prior and was now glaring at her and then to Kara and back to the floor. She could do this. She had to. There was no other choice. "I-I was feeling down," she said quietly, looking up as the elderly woman put a hand to her ear and yelled out, "What?" "I was feeling down," she repeated, her eyes darting around just over the tops of peoples' heads. "I mean, my mam who knows where, my da off alone and probably worried to death. They're muggles, you see, and I don't know, I just was thinking about him, wondering what he was doing, and Damien, he noticed, you see? Asked me what's wrong, he did, an' I told him." She shifted her weight, biting her lip back without realizing. "Maybe I shouldn't have, but I did. I mean, he's got that smile that makes--" She paused, blushing a little.

"Anyway, he-he's just easy to talk to, so I couldn't help it. And I guess he wanted to help because, well, he said we were going out there, and we did, but it was as... We were walking through this field when Death Eaters swarmed around us, and they grabbed me, used me as leverage. An-and they took him. They took Damien and they let me go because they wanted everyone to know, I guess. I mean, they didn't say as much, but they must've. I mean, why else would they have let me go so easy, right? But they took him, and who knows what they're doing to him..." She was rambling now, which wasn't what she'd meant to do, but she had, and shutting up now...

Jonathan watched in the background, with folded arms and an icy gaze. He didn't even flinch when the old woman lashed out at the injured girl, and all he did was turn his head to look at Kara Viridian as she spoke out to silence the lynch mob. He would never admit it to her face, but he was actually impressed by Viridian's outspokenness, her bold snap to the elderly woman putting her in her place. Jonathan huddled himself in his coat as he tried to keep warm, holding himself quiet as Nadia finally brought herself to speak up.

Then he became slightly concerned, worried about the girls' story of their troubled encounter. She and Damien were both in sight and grasps of the Death Eaters along their way, and they let the girl go? Hm. If he knew the Death Eaters like he knew them, and truly he did, considering his ex was a part of that crowd, there was something amiss with that recollection. Although it wasn't truly unlike a Death Eater to let go of the weakest prisoner to send a message, he felt like there was part of the story that was left out.

"You're telling me that our fearless Damien Noland, the leader of the Order, walked toward them, turned himself in without a fight?! He was completely outraged. There was no way he could believe a story like that, told by a bumbling introvert or not. "You mean to say that Damien willingly went to them, and they just let you go?" He laughed maniacally as he took a couple of steps forward, making a path through the splitting crowd before him. "Highly unlikely, girl. Then you managed to get away. Convenient."

It wasn't until he came a few feet across from Nadia and Kara, when Jonathan finally stopped in his tracks. "So then, have you led them here, Nadia?" His accusation cut the air like a blade through the water, smooth, quick, and simply dangerous. Jonathan's eyes fell upon the frightened girl, narrowed brow full of persecution and sheer suspicion.

Liam stepped forward and faced Jonathan with a stern face. Granted he didn't know Nadia as well as the others, but the fact that 'Lana and Kara were standing on the side of this young girl and her story, it was more than enough for him to protect their side. "Now now, just calm down, Jon. Young Nadia came to us with a message, that Damien is gone. You see that she bears marks, scars, proof of struggle. What more do you care to ask for?"

He took a moment, staring at the dark-cloaked man who was challenging the words of the girl before looking around. "We don't know that they've found us yet. We won't give them that chance. And if we continue arguing and running around like a headless chicken, then we choose to submit and let them find us...let them take Damien for nothing."

The brawny bartender swept his eyes over the crowd again, catching the attentions of most, and the embarrassed, lowering gazes of the rest. The key word was "unity", and they were doing what most crowds did in times of stress: give in to the chaos. As long as Liam was a strong supporter for the Order and of his friends, he wasn't going to let it fall, especially not now. "And if or when they do find us, we must be prepared."

War. It was something this generation of witches and wizards had grown accustomed to over the years. It never got old, it seemed. Life was go-go-go, no time to really stop and have a normal life. Liam knew which side he was on, and it was preparing the rest of the legion that would be the task. This very moment was apparently the time to choose between do or die.

The timid girl looked like she was about to cry--not that that was anything new for the evening. She pressed herself closer to the wall, unconsciously moving her arms to hug herself only to wince and quickly return them to how they had been, the one cradling the other. And then some man stepped up to her defense. It was heaven to hear. The newest member to the lynch mob that seemed to have, "Let's villainize Nadia," as their slogan had been cut down to size, and it seemed to give her a small amount of courage to step up and defend herself a little bit, but though her voice held a sense of anger and defense to it, it was still just as quiet as ever, just as meek as ever, but her eye contact was better and more directed, scarcely leaving Jon's face except in instances to speak.

"You think I'd lead him to danger?" she asked in disgust, shaking her head as though to say, "Never." "You think I'm one of them? One of those vile, disgusting creatures? Look, they weren't in plain sight. We must have been near something important or their headquarters or something and they must have sensed us and apparated nearby. I don't know. It all happened so fast! And he's stuck and hurt and who knows what all is going on with him. But I would never lead him to be hurt! I'm already mad at myself for letting him insist we do this, insist we go to find them. But you know how I am, too shy, too quiet. And believe me, I hate that about myself, but I can't help it. And finally someone was being kind to me. I didn't know how to turn him down without seeming ungrateful. And I'm sorry, ok?! I'm sorry!"

Nadia kept her teary-eyed but resolute gaze on Jon for a few moments later before looking down, screwing her eyes shut and holding her breath while inwardly counting to ten before opening her eyes and trying to subtly wipe away her tears with the hand of her good arm. Of course, such a feat was near impossible to have go unnoticed with all eyes on you for the most part, and right now all she wanted was to become one with the wall and never have to deal with any of this life again. Everything was closing in around her. Everything was just becoming too real, too painful. She'd lost someone else, and this time she might not be as much to blame, but she was still to blame. She could have helped somehow, distracted them from him so he could do something. She could have tried harder....

Jonathan stared at the girl as she poured her thoughts and emotions out for the world to see.

This supposed world was a small one, however, consisting of several fugitives, families, war veterans, wizards and witches who didn't see things the way this bloody Regime did. Fools, all of them. Jonathan knew he was one of them, but he also knew that he could protect himself. He'd survived the 'war' this far, protecting himself. What of the others? What of those too weak to even say a spell, let alone wield a wand? Such a pitiful crowd, most of these people, gathered of various races, ages, sizes, lifestyles. Yet, they shared such a horrible fate, being trapped by this Regime, caged into a disappearing manor, limited to their own powers. What kind of world was this?

Setting his judgments aside, the brooding Wizard folded his hands together and stood as a being carved out of pure marble; perfectly chiseled, perfectly still, and ever silent. There was nothing to really say to the girl, whose tears were visible as they glistened in her eyes. That pitiful face burned an image in Jonathan's mind. It was almost haunting, definitely unforgettable.

If he had a choice, he would run. But with nowhere else to stay, no one else to turn to, Jon was stuck fast to this damned fate. The Order.

His anger wasn't going to bring Damien back, he realized.
