"Dresden...," Milo tried to interrupt as his friend rambled on about the serpent. Ok, then. Who cared about a bunch of Latin right now? It was looking right at his friend now, moving with him. But now...now it was... "Dresden...?" he said a little more urgently. "Dresy?" Still nothing. "DRESDEN!" he exclaimed loudly as Berenice realized it was gone and seemed to be asking where it had gone in a daze. He had an idea, and it wasn't good. They were going to hate him for it. He'd been a bit off in his translation, but! He could have sworn. He could have sworn it said what he'd said it did. And now it was after the child.
Neither one of them seemed to be in for the action. They seemed fine asking where the other was. Milo was gone just seconds before either of them really began to react with movement. The shield was still with him, but he hadn't the energy nor the patience nor the time to wait. He had to get to that snake. He had to stop it from doing whatever it was meant to do. He scrambled after it, finding himself reaching the door just in time for...
"NO!" he screamed as he watched helplessly with wide eyes as the thing made a move for an innocent-looking blonde child. "Leave her alone! Over here! Um...! Uh....! Spell! Spell! End other spell! Spell!" He grasped at his head, his fez falling to the ground unnoticed. "Um! Oh! Finite!" Still, it wasn't responding. "Finite incantatem!" He watched, hoping he could only have saved the child in time, but the way the thing looked, the way it was staring....
Milo kept his eyes on the snake's, feeling the most helpless he had in a long time--if not ever. His hands were trembling. His knees felt weak. And then, the snake creature did what he least expected. It let out an inhuman, shrill shriek as it charged him. Milo didn't see it disappear. He passed out, his body in the doorway.
((Let me know if anything needs to change!))
