Gemma listened intently, hoping to hear something that meant that O.T. knew the Burgesses. When he finally revealed that he did, she nearly sighed in relief: here was someone she could ask about her fiance without getting yelled at. Plus, she would never to see this boy again... unless she wanted to.
So far, the only thing that was a point against him was the fact that he had a house elf, a pureblood affectation that Gemma personally found offensive: she herself had no need for a house elf, since she could perform housecleaning and other such charms with ease. Any other reason for having one seemed superfluous to her. If there wound up being anything else.... distasteful.... about O.T., it would be an easy matter to avoid him at school, since he didn't know it well enough to know her hiding spots and shortcuts.
It can't hurt to ask, she decided, It can only wind up being helpful to me. She bit her lip, as she so often did while thinking, as she considered how to phrase her first query.
"Well," she began, a little hesitence added to her voice to make herslf appear not as eager as she really was, "The Burgesses are the family I've heard of, and I'm a little curious about them. They're apperently extremely rich, and from what you just said I'm guessing this results from their luck in business deals. But actually, the thing about them that I'm most interested in -- well, that's the wrong way to put it..." She paused again, gauging O.T.'s reaction to her question, pulling Eclipse even closer to her chest for courage. "My parents arranged a marriage between me and the Burgesses second son," she stated bluntly, "I've never met him, though. Do you know anything about him? Anything at all?"
