"'Courage' is probably a bit of a stretch." Jaleth gives a strange, stiff, slight smile. It looked rather odd on those features, especially since such gestures so rarely covered them, these days. Bold, perhaps, even desperate...but Jaleth was not courageous, that's for certain. He didn't feel that way, at least. He knew she couldn't stay, not here. Hell, she probably didn't even want to. This was likely the result of some pity she may have towards him, and little else. He didn't care, though. Whatever kept her here, he was thankful for it. He didn't have much company these days, obviously...much less any he truly treasured.
Even after all this time, he remembered those gestures, that body language, all of it...and very well, at that. No doubt she had many things wandering through her mind, both good (hopefully) and bad. He knew not to interrupt that, not to really let on when she slipped, on occasion. Leave her to those thoughts, and such. He would ask, if the time was right...or she'd be out with them, if she felt the need.
With Kara safely seated, he moves to prepare two cups of tea, speaking as he moves. "I know you can't stay long. Probably don't want to, anyway. A little while won't hurt, though. It's safe enough, here." For now, at least. A reassurance, perhaps? She had little reason to trust him, he knew...but those words were as sincere as they could come. He'd not allow anything to happen to her, at cost of his own life. Not when he himself had asked...tricked...her here.
It takes him a bit to get back with two steaming cups, eyeing Kara as he came. He puts a cup near her, before taking his own and seating himself close by. "Besides, I wanted to get a good look at you. They'd said you'd gotten old." Could it be? A teasing comment, from the surly professor? It looked to be utterly against his very nature, now, given his appearance, but there it was. A little more characteristic of the old Jaleth, the one she'd known.
