Lunch had gone...well, let's put it this way: it had been awkward. Evie may have been around four four whole months now, but they still weren't completely there, but things were getting better, he thought. They seemed to be making some progress away from this awkward limbo land that had been even more awkward ever since Valentine's Day. That day he'd attributed it to that she wasn't sure if he expected anything from her that day or not, which he hadn't. With the way things had been going, he had known better than to push his luck and hadn't even bothered trying to plan dinner out. Instead, she'd gone out drinking, and he hadn't seen her for hours afterwards. By the time she'd arrived home, he'd fallen asleep on the couch and didn't notice her entrance, but she had been in her bed, seemingly asleep, when he'd woke himself up around four a.m. and went to his own bed.
She had become distant over the days that had followed, but after a lighthearted conversation here, another there, and a few sessions with Dr. Cambridge for her memory "restoration," she'd slowly begun to come around. She'd ask him about little things here or there, usually the most recently implanted memory or other minor things and usually disappeared before any real conversation could begin, but it had been a start, and it had lead to a few playful interactions and some conversations, and he'd decided to go ahead and ask her out on a day out, no strings attached. Just fun and time to get reconnected. She'd accepted, and here today they had sat down to eat some pizza together and chat, which had taken a lot of work, but that was how conversations usually were now-a-days. It wasn't anything like those times years before when he'd been trying to drive her and Casey Winslow apart.
Of course, she had no recollection of that time and she never would or else it would point out the obvious and reveal what he'd done to her only a few months ago, not to mention, she'd believe him her rapist again when nothing had ever truly happen; he'd merely changed her clothing after knocking her out. Mental torture was his thing, not physical torture...well, depending on the setting and the definition of "physical torture," but that was a different matter entirely, a matter he didn't think he'd be able to even think about around Evie for quite a whle longer, which irked him since, well, he obviously was curious how that night could have gone all those years ago had Evie not said Casey's name and said they should wait and yada, yada, yada.
But none of that mattered now because now she wasn't Casey's. For once and for all, she was his. She was Evelyn Ann Williams and would remain that until her dying day. Casey was dead. The Order was torn apart. There was no way they'd regroup anytime soon, if at all. No, he was pretty sure he was safe to continue on with his plans. Of course, now he didn't have many going on, and of course, now he had to be careful where he went again, but the muggle world gave him the flexibility to go to the types of nonmagical places he wanted to go, and if a witch or wizard happened to spot him, they certainly hadn't said anything yet, and he doubted they would. He was an escaped convict from Azkaban who was allegedly "you-know-who's" top assassin. No way in hell would they want to cross paths with him or make him angry, not with the still-recent attacks on Hogwarts and the Ministry by Death Eaters even if the Minister denied such claims and called them terrorists.
He knew the reason why that was. It was Harold's way of getting peoples' focus off the Death Eaters so they could go about their business. After all, why would beloved Minister of Magic Walter Crane lie to them? He wouldn't. Of course, none of them knew he was now (and had been the past few years) truly the believed-dead Harold Masters in disguise. Still, he doubted very many believed his little press-released statements about the fact that rumors about the attackers being Death Eaters being false. Even one who believed it was a Death Eater attack was too many and could have the power to send the wizarding world into a frenzy. Of course, anarchy was what they needed to thrive. Instability and anarchy would provide him the opening to get in there and take over the government.
But enough of that. They had reached the bowling alley after a short walk from the pizza parlor only a couple blocks away. It had been fairly quiet, but Trevor didn't push for conversation. He responded if Evie said anything to him but other than that remained quiet, subtly observing the area surrounding them. Once they arrived, he held the door open for her and then walked in himself, going over to the desk and paying for the lane and shoes. He told the kid behind the counter his shoe size and let Evie tell him hers and then walked over to a table and sat down and changed shoes before walking over to their lane with his shoes in hand and setting them down below the seats. Then, he went in search of a ball, returning and setting it in the ball return.
