"Even a family to take care of"? What exactly did that mean? "Family" as a generic term for father, mother, etc.? Or "family" as in she had a husband and a child or even children to take care of? The latter would be surprising. Sure, she had taken that boy to the Yule Ball or he had taken her, whichever way around it was. He didn't really care, to be quite honest. That was part of the past, a past that was necessary to bring about a better future for the whole of the wizarding world here in the United Kingdom. However, as much as he hated the feeling of nagging curiosity, he couldn't ignore the "need" to know what meaning of family Rika had intended him to understand it as. She said it as though it was simply a fact, but that provided him nothing to base his acquired definition off of. After all, if she was married with children, she wouldn't think anything of it. It'd just be how life was for her, right?
"Would you mind clarifying something for me, Rika? I know curiosity killed the cat, but I don't wish to jump to assumptions. What do you mean by 'family'?" It was a simple question. If she was taken aback by it, then something was wrong with her. He didn't mean any offense by it, and he figured she'd have enough sense to know that, especially at her age. She was a couple years older than he, so marriage would be acceptable. Then again, he didn't know how culture was over there. Oops. Oh well. Just as long as she didn't hit him with his broom (thankfully, it was over in his dorm) like she did James Halden that year she attended Hogwarts for touching her bow or choose to substitute the broom for a teacup or a table or a chair or something. Merlin's beard, he'd be in some trouble then.
