Interesting. Indeed it was quite interesting. Rika listened carefully before finally saying something. Her notebook closed and disappeared into her kimono. Veritaserum. Of course. Now that was totally unacceptable. She couldn't risk taking that stuff and then rambling and raving about the family and that little secret that was attached to them.
“Interesting,” Rika finally said. Though, why had he brought up how the so called Unforgivable Curses were dealt with these days? What threat could Annabelle be in that area? Even if she would have studied those three for the past two years, it was still very unlikely for her to be a match for Rika in any combat situation. “Interesting indeed. Veritaserum, why am I not surprised. Though, I'm also wondering about two things.” Her eyes focused on Lance. “Do you really think that Annabelle would be a threat for me. Wand, gun, sword, or bow, she's not match for me, never has been.” It was hardly arrogance that spoke out of Rika. It was a simply fact. Annabelle had grown up in a system where magic was simply used for... many things, except combat, really. And the few lessons she had had were all connected to defense. A mere two years could not change a purely defensive philosophy that easily. Surely, Annabelle may have acquired a certain skill in her technique, but technique by itself was not enough. Of course, standing face to face with Rika could have, possibly, added a certain spirit inside Annabelle, but even then technique and spirit had to be united. That was something that couldn't be learned in a mere 700 days -not that Annabelle had even had 700 anyway. Rika on the other hand, had learned combat casting and wand kata ever since her very first day at Shirasagi. She had learned to shoot and lead in the JSDF and she had been on one hell of a spiritual journey during her one year in China. It was like pitching a modern tank head on against a Volkswagen Beetle.
“And secondly... what do you get from all of this? Don't tell me you want to help me because of your oh-so-great heart and your sympathies and what not. For all I know, Herr Ulrich, you could care less over what I do with Annabelle or what happens between the two of us. So, what's in it for you? What do you expect getting from it?”
