Two months back in civilization and already his ambitious, conniving family was trying to use him? 'Welcome bloody home,' Jasper thought smugly, pacing the study of his London town home. For the past year he had been in South America with his uncle, Tiberius Sprout, researching ingredients for his experimental potions. The man was more than a little loony, according to the rest of the family, but Jasper loved going on trips with him. When the Death Eater regime had started their crusade against the non-purebloods, Jasper had decided to escape for a while and had flown off to the Amazon to join his uncle. Unfortunately for Jasper (although the rest of his Death Eater family was thrilled), the respite didn't last long, having been offered the Potions professorship at Hogwarts. It was his dream job, but Jasper had hesitated at the thought of being a part of the new Death Eater world. At some heavy pressure from his parents (and grandparents and cousins and uncles...) he had taken the position and come back home to prepare.
And now his grandfather and great-uncle were trying to use him! Merlin, this was exactly why he had run off to Brazil in the first place! Those conniving old bastards wanted to use him to 'carry on the family line' and bring his errant cousin Sienna to heel, all in one fell swoop with an arranged marriage! An arranged marriage! Was this the Dark Ages or something? Who the bloody hell still had arranged marriages?! And with a cousin!? True she was, what? His third, fourth cousin? Whatever, she was his grandfather's great-neice, and that was still too weird for him.
But anyway... Apparently Sienna had been arrested as a slave for a while and then recently had been pardoned and made a hero for uncovering a treason plot. And since her ever-so-loving family had all but disowned her when she was a slave, Sienna now wanted nothing to do with them, not that he could blame her for that. Of course, now that she was a hero and an 'honorary pureblood' (whatever the hell that meant), this infuriated the Faber patriarchs. Why they thought telling her this arranged marriage had been made when they were infants (untrue, as far as Jasper knew) would make her cooperate was beyond him, but whatever...
Deciding that allowing his anger at the whole situation to fester and make him angrier was just stupid, Jasper grabbed his cloak and apparated downtown. Entering the nearest pub, he didn't even stop to look at the name, striding up to the bar and ordering their best firewhiskey they had. Nodding a thanks to the bartender, Jasper settled himself at the end of the bar and prepared to forget his conniving family.
