Dresden couldn’t help but let out a small laugh. Yes the freedom it brought was definitely something the professor missed. The ability to do things on a whim as Gideon put it was simply amazing and strangely enough (ok not really strange at all) it was the thing he noticed most since returning home. Unfortunately it didn’t matter that Dresden was 30, his father still saw fit to remind him of the ‘my house, my rules’ card. ”Ah yes, I’m sure there are many more exciting places to go, though I’ll tell you straight up that I consider any place I haven’t been to exciting. That makes Ireland a very good candidate for summer travel.”
At the sound of the door opening Dres couldn’t stop himself casually looking to see who had walked in as he took another sip of his tea. It took him a small moment to figure out why the newcomer looked so familiar. Thinking back to earlier in the month when they had crossed paths at the Abby he couldn’t help but grin. What a night that had turned into. Waving at hand at the Potions Professor Dres called out; ”Jasper! Long time no see. Care to join us?”
Before he had taken even five steps in the door, a familiar voice had Jasper stopping in his tracks. "Dresden!" the potions master exclaimed, laying eyes on his colleague. "Long time, no see, eh?" he added with a chuckle. Walking over to Dresden's table he clapped the man affectionately on the shoulder in greeting and noticed the other man sitting with him. "I'm not interrupting anything am I, gentlemen?" Jasper asked, not wanting to intrude on anything. True, Dres had told him to come over, but that didn't mean he had intended Jasper to stay. For all he knew, the professor was discussing something private with the other man, so the potions master waited for confirmation before pulling out a chair and joining the table. After ordering a drink for himself and stuffing his bag carefully under his chair, Jasper held out his hand to the man next to Dresden and introduced himself, being the friendly sort that he was. "Jasper Faber. Nice to meet you...?" he said, leaving the statement open-ended as he didn't know the man.

Oh, so Dresden knew this guy then? Well Gideon supposed that wasn't surprising. When you have somewhere like Diagon/Knockturn Alley, with such a consentration of the magical population it wasn't hard to run into someone you'd known in the past. He'd run into Dresden after all.
As the man - Jasper, Dresden had called him - headed over and clapped his ex school friend on the back Gideon assumed the pair must know eachother pretty well, since in this current climete you didn't trust people you didn't really know. They must know each other pretty well. " You aren't interupting anything. Pull up a pue."
Gideon grabbed the man's hand as he held it out, shaking it firmly. "Gideon Conleth. I went to school with our man Jasper here. We're about to head back to school actually..." Gideon trailed off. The guy probably didn't care - more likely he just wanted to talk to his friend without some new guy butting in. So he shut his mouth cupped his hands around his mug of coffee.

Dres chuckled when Jasper gave him a friendly clap on the shoulder. Long time no see was right, not since the unusually gathering at the Abby. He grinned at the other man as he motioned to an open chair. ”No no, of course you aren’t interrupting,” he stated as he gave a nod to Gideon, ”Gideon and I are old friends and we were just catching up after I quite literally ran into him over at the Quidditch shop. He’s the new flying guy a Hogwarts apparently.” He gave a playful wink to Gideon after his last comment.
He took a moment as Jasper introduced himself to Gideon to flag down a waiter and get refill, having finished his tea just before the potions professor came over. Taking a sip of the fresh stuff he let a warm smile spread across his face. ”So Jasper, what brings you this way? Last minute shopping I’d wager considering start of term is right around the corner?”
Jasper smiled as Dresden mentioned the other man, Gideon apparently, and explained he was the new 'flying guy' at Hogwarts. "This is a small world we live in isn't it, my friend?" Jasper chuckled, smirking at Dresden. "I'm the new Potions Master there as well," he clarified with a smile at Gideon. Seriously, what were the odds that he would run into so many of his new colleagues like this? First it had been Dresden, Urania, and Nestra that night at the pub, and now here was Dresden again with yet another of his colleagues too! Here he had been expecting to be meeting everyone either on the train or at the start of the year feast, but now he had met probably half the people he would be working with already! Not that he was complaining about that; he was quite pleased about it actually. At least he wouldn't be sitting at the professors' table all alone and awkward.
"And, yes Dresden, I'm getting some last minute shopping done. There are a few herbs I like to keep on hand that I'm not sure would be standard fare in the school's stores, so I wanted to be sure I had my own stash of them. How 'bout you gents?" Jasper asked as the server brought him some tea. "Seems right off I keep running into new colleagues like this," the potions master chuckled.

Yes, small world indeed. The three new colleagues meeting like this was pretty unlikely, but welcome all the same. It was certainly a great help to know he'd have his old friend at the school, so he perhaps wouldn't be completely alone. Plus this guy was in the same boat as him, though apparently he'd met a few more of his colleagues than Gideon had. Still, two was better than none. And it would be nice to see a few familiar faces at the staff table. And just the fact that one of those faces was not a completely new one, and rather one from his past. It was a good surprise, without a doubt. And apparently he wasn't even the only new professor - which was definitely not a bad thing. Being the only new face in an already established group was never easy, so having a pair of them would be a great help. "Shopping, and lusting. The new broom in the flying shop's window. It is really a thing of beauty," He laughed lightly in answer to Jasper's question.
He nodded in agreement at Jasper's observation - Hogwarts professors did seem to keep running into each other. "No bad thing though," He noted.

Dresden couldn’t hold back a chuckle at Jasper’s comment about it being a rather small world. Small world indeed. It seemed like most of the teaching staff at Hogwarts were destined to meet each other, in one form or another, before they even set foot on the train. Not to mention meeting an old friend out of the blue, who also happened to be teaching. He pointed to his own stack of books on the corner of the table in response to Jasper, ”Well you aren’t the only one that’s for sure. I probably should have done this earlier but what can I say, I’m a procrastinator at heart.” Taking a sip of his tea, Dres listened aptly as Gideon chimed in about the new broom at the Quidditch shop.
”What I wouldn’t give to try it out too,” he quipped when Gideon stated it was a thing of beauty. ”Pretty sure my flying skills are a far cry from what they were back in the day; haven’t been on a broom in years. Pretty sure if I tried any crazy stunts like back in my younger years, I’d probably end up in the Hospital wing for a month. Though if my luck is the same as last year and I draw a double class with 7th year Gryffindors and Slytherins first period, I may be tempted to do something crazy.” The last part was said with a smirk. Blasted house rivalries, if only they could be kept out of the classroom.
"Oh, is it ever!" Jasper exclaimed, agreeing with Gideon's assessment of the broom. "If I was a few years younger, you can bet your bonnet I'd be all over that," he added with a chuckle. The newest Nimbus was simply superb, the kind of broom that would let the least talented kid seem cool and super-skilled, he longed silently. Back when he was a Chaser on the Slytherin team (Ye gods, was it really almost 20 years ago?!) Jasper had loved Quidditch and just flying in general, but in the last few years he hadn't had much chance to play or to fly. After all, it wasn't exactly proper for a Faber to be playing pick-up games with mudbloods and 'lesser blooded wizards'. He sighed inwardly at the thought of his father's ridiculous decrees like that and vowed silently that he wasn't going to think about his family for the rest of the day. Gits, the lot of them.
As Dresden went on to mention not being as young and agile as he used to be, Jasper chuckled and quipped, "Well how do you think I feel, Dresden? I'm older even than you!" After a momentary pause for a sip of tea, the potions master smirked and added, "Although, I don't feel too old to put up my broom and give up the game either. Doing stupid things in the air is just still too much fun..." he laughed, showing he was merely jesting with his colleagues.

Could Gideon believe what he was hearing? His old Quidditch captain hadn't been on a broom in years? Poor show Dresden, poor show. What had happened to the boys from Ravenclaw back in the day? When on earth had they gotten so... Old? Well that was pretty depressing... "I'm sure after a few firewhiskys I'm be able to convince you into have a little go. You never were very good at turning down a challenge." Gideon may laugh, but he wasn't much better than Dresden at rising above childish dares. " A week in the hospital wing is a small price pay for your pride, dont'cha think?" Gideon was joking of course, but after a few to many drinks, he become suddenly all the more serious.
At least this Jasper agreed with Gideon - he liked him all ready! You very never too old to get on a broom - Hell if Gideon hadn't had that as an outlet in his old job he would have gone crazy long ago. You needed an outlet in life, it just so happened Gideon's had been the same thing his new job now involved. "Maybe we need to start a teacher league for Quiditich this year," He laughed, joking of course, " I hate to think my old captin is out of practice."

”Hey now! Just because I said I hadn’t flown seriously in a few years does not mean I still couldn’t fly circles around the both of you. I still play in the odd pick-up game you know!” he shot back jokingly, ”And I’ll have you know I’m still horrible at turning down challenges, even if they involve doing stupid things in the air. Never was very good at saying no, eh Gideon..” The last was said with a mischievous quality to it. Perhaps he’d have to try and convince them both to go flying one of these days. Of course this would mean he’d actually have to go out and get a broom, but there were worse things in life to spend your galleons on right?
Letting out a soft chuckle, Dres took another sip of his tea as he listened to his colleagues banter. ”You used to play Jasper?” he asked, now that his mind has been taken over by thoughts of playing again. And Gideon’s suggestion of all of the professor’s getting out for a pick-up game, sounded like way to much fun. Lost in his muse, Dres almost missed Gideon’s last jab about being out of practice. Giving the man a light, playful kick to the shin, he quipped back, ’I hardly think you’d be one to talk! When’s the last time you touched a quaffel and didn’t get pummeled into the dirt?'
Jasper chuckled at Gideon and Dresden's bantering, envying them a little for their easy friendship. It had been years since Jasper had seen or heard from anyone he called a friend in his school days, and there were times he wished he had a good friend of the sort that Dres and this Gideon seemed to be. The kind of friend you could go years without seeing and just pick up where you left off when you finally did. But unfortunately, all those kinds of friends (who obviously turned out to not be those kinds of friends...) he thought would stick with him after graduation had deserted Jasper when they found out that his girlfriend (who he intended to make his wife) was a muggle-born. At the thought of his lost love, Erica, Jasper's mood took a sudden turn for the depressed and he felt his chest constrict with long-repressed emotion. It wasn't until Dresden addressed him directly that the potions master surfaced again from his suddenly heavy thoughts.
Resuming his normal facade, all wit and charm, Jasper feigned shock at his colleague's question and clutched his heart dramatically. "Did I used to play?! I was the Slytherin captain for five years, mate!" he raged good-naturedly, smirking all the while. "Graduated in '97, I did. They used to call me the 'Fabulous Faber'," he added with a sarcastic half-bow and an eye-roll. He had always thought his nickname was ridiculous and downright dumb, but whatever. Ridiculous or not, the statement was true and he had no problem owning up to it in jest. "Surely I can't be that much older than you two that you wouldn't at least have heard of my prodigious feats..." Jas added with a mischievous smirk.
((Oh crap! I just realized I did the math wrong when I was doing his sheet. lol Sorry! It's supposed to be '97 and he is actually 32.))

It really didn't seem like Dresden had changed that much too Gideon. Still defensive about his skills - it was nice to know some people hadn't changed even when Gideon had. He wondered what his old friend would do if he found out what his old buddy Gideon had been doing for almost 10 years. What would say if he found out just how many families Gideon had torn apart, lives he'd ruined.... The young professor shuddered to think. " No was never really in your vocabulary Dresden... Especially, "No Dresden I can't come to practice I've got homework," "No I can't Dresden I've got detention," or " No I'm in the hospital wing"... You never were big on excuses were you? Mind you I did inherit thinking when I inherited the team..." It was funny how many techniques Gideon had taken from his old Captain when he took over their much loved team and his example had never steered him wrong. Gideon's eye brow's raised at the old friend kicked him, " I may not have touched a quaffle in a while but I fly I darn sight more than you I'd bet. it would be bad if I didn't - being the new Flying instructor..."
So this table was surrounded by ex house Quidditch captains. Well that was fun. " So you ran Slytherin's team then? Well I must have played against you... If," Gideon paused, thinking over the dates," Fourth year when I was first? So I got on the team in third year... Yea. One year of playing against you?"[/b
[[ Sarah if Jasper graduated in 90' he'd be 40 wouldn't he =S Gideon's 4 years younger but graduated in 2004....]]

Dres chuckled at Jasper’s antics as he proclaimed he was the Slytherin captain back in the day. Fabulous Faber was it? Now that was a name he hadn’t heard of in quite some time. ”Fabulous Faber you say? Quite the terror on the pitch if I remember correctly,” he said as he tried to hold back a laugh (it didn’t really work so well). ”Nice to finally put a face to the name. I never did get to play against you since I didn’t actually try for the Ravenclaw team until my second go at 6th year.” It was too bad, Dresden thought, that he hadn’t figured out that he really enjoyed Quidditch earlier in his life; if he had he was pretty sure he would have tried out for the team in second year.
He rolled his eyes and smirked as Gideon went to point out how the word ‘no’ wasn’t in his vocabulary list. Still wasn’t, even after all those years, though he did have to grimace a bit at Gideon’s remembrance of a particular event which had the man holed up in the hospital wing for a week. Maybe he had been a little demanding of his team. ”Excuses are still highly over-rated Gideon, everyone should be able to walk out of the hospital wing, broken arm and all and continue playing,” he quipped back jokingly. ”And you may have flown longer, but I’m quite sure I still fly better. Perhaps we should find some recruits and get a pick-up game going. Then I can mop the floor with the flying instructor and the Fabulous Faber... ” He couldn’t’ keep the grin off his face.
"Mop the floor with us?! I bet you couldn't mop the floor if we handed you a mop, Faust!" Jasper joked, hoping he wasn't crossing any lines. After all, he had only just met Gideon and had only known Dresden for a couple weeks. Some people were funny about 'friendly abuse', even in jest, but especially with someone you didn't know all that well. His colleagues didn't seem like the type to get all bent out of shape that easily, but he would just have to wait and see what happened. Worst case scenario, Jasper would just have to apologize. They were all adults here; a little misunderstanding wouldn't ruin the conversation.
"And you're damn right I was a terror on the pitch! Can't tell you how many times I got put in the penalty box for charging the Keeper... knocked one through the hoop once, if I recall," the potions master added thoughtfully, remembering the past. Realizing he had just admitted to knocking someone off their broom and sounded like he hadn't cared, Jasper quickly added, "She didn't fall; one of my beaters and I caught her! Lydia Vance... she was a Ravenclaw too. Was that during your year on the pitch with me, Gideon?" In truth, Jasper didn't recall ever playing against Gideon or hearing about him, but he wasn't about to announce that fact to his new colleague. That would just be rude.

Although the idea of a teacher's game had been a joke, at Dresden's thought of finding a few more teachers, enough for a good game seemed very appealing. Everyone loves Quidditch - hey it could be a new bonding session for the new staff team. " I can just see the faces of the students when they go down to the pitches to practice and they find their Dark Arts professor, Potions Master and flying instructor racing around to see who really is the fastest... That could be a fun one to explain." Gideon could practically see it now, students looking at their old stuffy professors wizzing about like excitible children. Fun fun.
"We'll just have to test your therory wont be?" Gideon smirked at his ex-captain. True, Gideon had once played under the man, but he'd had a whole year after that of calling the shots and wasn't about to let that go.
Gideon actually laughed out loud at Jasper's comment, " Too right Jasper! Dresden has more than a healthy dose of ego if I remember rightly." He clapped his friend on the back to show he was only joking... Well half joking. And as for Lydia Vance... Gideon paused, thinking back through the lists of names of people he'd met at school. He glanced to Dresden, " Wasn't she the year between us? I'm sure I played with her, but I'm almost certain I was in the stands when that happened..."
