29 August 9:00 am, Lecture hall
Chatter chatter buzz buzz...keep talking... Andrew's thoughts were punctuated by the snick-snack of the chalk across the black board. He could have charmed it to write what he wanted, but where was the visceral experience in that? His neat, somewhat spidery handwriting eventually flowed out across the board. Finally done, he turned to face his seventh year students. The thin, blond professor eyes them carefully and straightened his khaki work clothes.
"Right, you lot...pay attention or else." He didn't snap the words, really. He just wanted their attention. Especially the dozy looking Hufflepuff boy in the back row. Andrew settled his gaze on him. That one, and his friend next to him, would be trouble, no doubt. He recognized several faces, including his soon to be sister in law and, of course his brother. Still, they'd be just two more students here.
He grabbed a stack of packets from his desk and began distributing them. The class rules, syllabus, and schedule were bound together neatly.
"As you can read, you will be expected to give at least two class presentations of at least ten minutes. At this level, you will also be expected to create and maintain what I like to call a 'field journal.' Basically, everything you see in this class will be documented in your notes and turned in for a grade at the end of the course. The requirements are listed in your packets. Since this class is a double period, we shall attend lecture together and then go to the greenhouses to apply our knowledge in a practical and safe manner. I highly recomend that you pay attention. Failure to do so can lead to injury, humiliation, and possibly even death. In a related note, please find a consent form at the back of your packet and sign it, confirming that I have indeed warned you of the dire consequences of acting like an idiot. Legal matters, and what not..."
Andrew allowed himself a small, smug smile as he listened to the stunned silence followed by the scribbling of quills.
