**This thread is open to all who received an invitation. Any Death Eaters and their families, or 'socialites' of at least halfblood status, along with anyone who works with Lionel Blake at the ministry, are welcome.**

Lily was almost sad to see that the weather was really quite lovely today; it contrasted with her mood as much as night and day. Today was the day of her official engagement to Ian, and her heart and mind could not have felt any heavier. She and Lance had gone round and round about how they could get her out of the engagement contract for weeks now, but hadn't been able to find a viable escape that didn't put either of them at risk. And so, here she stood in the gardens of her uncle's estate, in a gorgeous blue silk gown and her hair fixed perfectly, forced to smile and enjoy the party that celebrated the ruination of her life. Alright, so maybe she was feeling a little dramatic, but the petite brunette certainly wasn't happy at any rate as she mingled among the crowd. There were people she knew from school, young socialites that she knew from the social circuit, and many of her uncle's associates and fellow Death Eaters. By the time Lily had made one round of the crowd, it seemed like she had talked to or been congratulated by every single one of them.
As unhappy as she was, the former Ravenclaw had to admit the gardens and the mansion did look splendid. As guests arrived, they would follow a path from the front of the mansion lined with pixie-lights and hibiscus bushes around to the gardens in back. A decorative white wrought iron fence with climbing rose-covered arches enclosed the ballroom-sized patio where the guests assembled for mingling and dancing. More pixies were fixed in the rose, hibiscus, and peony bushes that lined the fence, giving the garden an enchanted look. A string ensemble was situated in one corner of the patio providing inane background music (the dancing wouldn't begin until after the buffet was cleared away) while in the other corner the lavish dinner buffet was set up. Lobster, prime rib, stuffed quails and other birds, herb-encrusted potatoes, all sorts of steamed and grilled vegetables... her uncle had certainly spared no expense to feed the masses. Currently the dance floor was dotted with tables seating 8 or so diners apiece, each one draped in elegant silver tablecloths with a hibiscus, rose, and peony centerpiece. Many guests had already arrived and begun helping themselves to the lavish buffet, but Lily felt far too sickened by the whole affair to eat and merely wandered aimlessly, chatting with guests almost mechanically, knowing that would be what was expected of her.
