Kitty could see the shock in their faces, and really, she couldn't blame them. They'd been thinking her dead for over a year now... and she had been, in a way. She'd even felt dead.
Listening in human form was proving difficult for her; her ears were used to much clearer hearing abilities, and everything sounded a bit muffled to her. Her sense of smell was also greatly shifted, but she could still tell that she herself smelled vile. She tried to force herself to listen to what the man on her right, one of her oldest friends, was saying, but she found herself more distracted with the sight of the other man.
Sully.
He looked as though he was seeing a ghost, which didn't surprise Kitty much. It was rather the same for her, seeing his face up close, seeing the shock there.
"Excuse me. I need to step out."
She watched as he exited, noting that the door didn't close all the way. If she moved quickly, she could transform back... and...
... and what?
It was hopeless. They knew now that she was there. The young woman's voice spoke from outside, startling Kitty, and she froze in a feline-ish posture of listening.
"Rat? What happened?"
"Fine, fine...yeah...everything's...everything's fine..."
Sully's response had a minute frown appearing on Kitty's face, and she shifted slightly, her head tilting and stretching forward slightly in another cat-like movement. She heard a rustle of fabric and the girl's voice again, in a concerned tone.
"Jake, you're... unwell. What's the matter? Tell me at once!"
Kitty shifted again, this time in a nervous fashion. Her eyes lowered, and the muscles of her shoulders bunched as though she was about to pounce for cover. She felt the over-whelming urge to transform back, to run, to hide, to hope that they would think this all a dream...
