11:30 p.m.
Usually, Milo would be much too energized from the Halloween Ball to have even fancied coming out to be by himself by the lake, but this year was different. Things had been going south between him and Urania since their argument. Instead of working things out, it seemed like both of them had decided it was over. Things had just never been the same since. They hadn't flowed so well together. It was as though a wedge had been driven between them and they were prolonging the inevitable by avoiding the issue and even each other as they had done for the most part tonight.
Milo had done his best to enjoy himself, dressing in a flamboyant Merlin costume and helping with the younger children before moving onto the ball. After about an hour, however, he had wandered away, leaving the ball to do some thinking. Things just weren't worth doing right now, and it wasn't because he was depressed about the relationship. It was more the weariness of prolonging things past their "expiration date" for lack of a better term. He needed to make himself talk to her soon. Maybe he'd do that this weekend. It was better than finding her after the end of the ball, which was surely beginning to wind down now, and talking to her on the wizarding world's favorite holiday.
Sighing, Milo lifted the skirt of his robes and sat down on a rock by the Black Lake, a foot up on the rock with him and the other just resting semi-straight in front of him as he looked over. His eyes fell on a tentacle disappearing beneath the dark water before they moved to admire the moon's reflection. It wasn't much of one, however. The waxing crescent hardly let out a proper light in the night, and the lack of stars tonight in the cloudy sky made it darker than usual out here. Maybe the lack of things to see out here tonight was his cue to go inside. Maybe.... He was about to push himself up when he heard someone approaching.
