That smirk turned almost into a smile. Almost. It was threatening his face even as a dry, little chuckle escaped him. He tried hard to stifle it down and simply shook his head ever so slightly before damn well grinning at her. Maybe it was the veela that was throwing it off, or maybe he was just in a jackass sarcastic mood. Ianto really couldn't tell. "Haven't you heard? Americans are very opinionated. And very good at getting into other people's business." Oh that grin was smug. But in all honesty, wasn't that how most of the world viewed America? Ianto wasn't dumb by any means, but he found humor in this glimmering moment because it was just too damned funny to him. The grin did a lot to brighten up his face, which had been oh so serious up until this point. A bit of light in his blue eyes, and a grin that was hard to wipe off his face.
He finally grabbed his coffee and finished it off, hiding that smile behind the action so that when he set it down, nothing more than the smirk showed. She was throwing him off, that was the only answer that he could come up with. "I was born in Cardiff. You could say that maybe this is my fight because of this. But really, I'm just here to visit my parents graves. They died in all of this mess, and I haven't had a chance to see their graves since then. Excuse me for my brash language here, enough cutting of the bullshit? Or would you like to gleam more secret meanings from me?" He shrugged his shoulders slightly, before holding up a hand to get the waiter's attention and order another cup of coffee. It was going to be a long night.
"I have a notebook of mementos from my father, which was what you stole. I was going to read some of it to him, to show I still had it. I reacted violently to the situation, so I apologize for being rough with you. However, what I saw was a young girl with a rough life, and I thought I'd do some good to buy her a cup of coffee and see what troubles her. Your... quirk is throwing me off more than I would care for." There. Cover story said, everything smoothly put in that low, manly tone of his. If she did talk to anyone about this, then that was what she would have. A really damned good cover story. Simple and clean as that. His words weren't kind exactly, some of them had a sharper edge to them, and he couldn't keep the calm, dead tone that went with the rest of his words, but what was done was done. Silly part veela, throwing him off of everything.
