Teach itself to start beating again
October 9th, 1:48 pmLyrics from "Christina Perri" - "Bluebird"
Lissianna threw her pen across the room and rubbed her eyes with the heels of her palms. Not again. Why now? She just couldn't concentrate. Two days ago, her former employer turned over the entire project to her and Liss was trying to catch up on the work already done, but her thoughts just wouldn't stay on the subject. As her thoughts had also been this past week. Maybe she should just take a break, something distracting that would also calm and focus her. Merlin only knew what that would be.
She looked out the window and watched rivets of water dance across the pane. It looked so nice outside, despite the rainstorm. She did love rain. Even cold rain. Rain meant ... starting over. And that's exactly what she needed. She needed to start over. She paused at the door, her body shaking suddenly, thoughts tossed into a whirlwind. Why hadn't he come to see her? One would think he'd have at least written or something. To tell her he was safe or that he didn't want to speak to her again. Her stomach clenched at the last thought. He lied to you. You ... You should forget him. Why should you care?
Maybe it was because she recognized something in him. Something that also reached out to her. Such things have been known to happen between others. She just hoped he felt something, too. Didn't he admit as much? Or was that another lie? There was wetness on her cheeks and Liss looked up, fearful that the roof was leaking. Housework was difficult in the late fall / early winter stage. Finding no leaks, Liss put a hand to her eye and felt moisture there. Oh. That's why. Yes, even though Alexander had lied to her, a part of her wished to see him again. If only to know that he was still alive. She'd watch from a distance if she had to, but she couldn't even bring up the courage to go back into Hogsmeade. She felt cowardly.
She sighed and rubbed her eyes again. I need to clear my head. Just for a little while. Paying no attention to her bare feet nor her attire (just a long sleeved dress), Liss made for her garden. Perhaps she'd find some sort of clarity out there, or at least wash away her current feelings.~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Whisper watched her mistress from her hiding spot. Poor poor Misses Lisses. Hasn't been the same since going out to fly. The first few days were difficult, having to force her to eat, to draw her from the windows. Liss never left her room those days. Always crying, always babbling about truths, identities, Alexander this, Denver that, Gideon such and such. The mistress never babbled like that before, even after Master Peter had died.
To be honest, she was a bit relieved to find that Master Denver had brought the Misses home. Even though Misses Lisses was unconscious. At least it wasn't a stranger who broke through the shield. Whisper remembered the Misses' laughter when he visited the first time and how concerned and frightened Master Denver looked when he brought her home just a week ago. The house elf decided then that Misses Lisses needed cheering up, and as her caretaker, Whisper was obliged to bring that about. Master Denver did so well the last time, why not again?
With a snap, Whisper disappeared and reappeared in the back room of The Three Broomsticks. It was dark and the place was empty enough. Now where was Master Denver? Peering around the doorway, the house elf heard someone coming. She ducked back into the shadows, but kept her eyes open. The man who passes wasn't Master Denver, so Whisper continued to wait. It was some minutes before another person passed, one she recognized. Whisper didn't want to hurt Misses Lisses's friend, but she honestly didn't know how to catch his attention. With an old piece of stale bread in hand, she threw it at the man's head, hoping he'd feel it.
[Note: It kept staring at me. ... I swear. It's creeping me out.]
