i’ll carry you home, t o n i g h t .
The young man nodded slightly. It seemed like such a strangely trivial moment of his past. Certainly, most people wouldn't find fights to be no big deal, but it was completely different than the situations both of them found themselves in now. He had been arrested. He had been enslaved. Talking about a school fight was hardly the same wavelength. However, at Lissianna's words, Alexander smiled softly. No matter how bad it was for her to remember him, it still felt good. There was that pang of guilt again. He had gotten her mixed up in his life. He may have wanted to stay around her, but he just couldn't. If things were different, he wouldn't have to leave. "Good luck. Y'know, with the job. You always seemed to be a brilliant one to me."
He fell silent, trying to gather his thoughts. He really was leaving, wasn't he? Before, it had been a fleeting thought, a good idea. Alexander knew it would be best to leave, but now it was definitive. He was going. Leaving her behind wasn't something he wanted to do, not at all, but he couldn't keep living in that fantasy. It didn't work like that. Once more, he pushed those thoughts from his mind. He had to go through with it. Inviting her to come would be even more dangerous than leaving her behind. He hadn't been in Hogsmeade very long and he was already saying goodbye. It was for the best, he kept reminding himself. It wasn't safe.
Alexander hesitated slightly at Liss' question. "Maybe." It was possible the might see each other; it would just have to be a very long time. There were so many variables that made it difficult to tell. For all he knew, things would stay like this the rest of his life. He didn't want to believe it, but these were certainly trying times. It was foolish to think that things could go back to the way they were in an instant. "I hope we meet again, Lissianna. In a different place. In a different time." That way, Lissianna could know the truth, right from the start. She wouldn't have to hear about his false identity. He wouldn't need a false identity. A small frown tugged at his lips. Hope was powerful, indeed, but so was worry. The future was unpredictable. He couldn't get his hopes up that way.
At the mention of his jacket, his brow creased. His jacket? It took a moment before he realized what she was talking about. Oh, the jacket he had let her borrow the first time they met! A small smile found his face as his cheeks flushed. He would probably want that, wouldn't he? He would need to stay at least moderately warm once he left. He ran a hand through his hair, shaking his head. "If you don't need it anymore…" His words trailed off as his cheeks colored even further. Why would she need his jacket? Why did he have to be so awkwardly stupid whenever he talked to her? "I-I… I mean…" Unable to come up with anything good to say, he closed his mouth, staring at the floor. Merlin, was he still having a hard time not getting flustered around her?
