MILO ADRIAN WITTE
soon-to-be twenty-six. neutral. arithmancy professor. ravenclaw.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
BIRTHDAY: June 12, 1986
BIRTHPLACE: London, England
CURRENT: Milo is a bit of a nomad when not working, but when he does go "home," he returns to his mother's house in London.
FAMILY:
• Mother: Adriana Witte, aged 51. Pureblooded status. Nurse
BLOOD: Half-blood
ORIENTATION: Heterosexual
WAND: 9.5", willow, phoenix feather core
DESCRIPTION: With a slender 5'11" frame and an awkwardly-shaped head with semi-unkempt brow hair, Milo's not everyone's cup of tea to look at. He weighs in at 182 pounds, and his brown eyes are framed by glasses whenever he's reading or working. Milo is fairly scar-free. Inevitably, though, he has a few unremarkable ones if one looks for them, and a faint white burn mark is present on his left pinky from a small potions accident in his school days.
PLAY-BY: Matt Smith
-------------------------------------------------------------------
PATRONUS: Milo's patronus is a kitten.
BOGGART: Milo is afraid of being caught in the dark without a way to promptly create a light source. It's to the point he sleeps with a light on at night.
MIRROR OF ERISED: Milo sees himself happy and traveling wherever he should like.
HABITS: Milo's a pacer. If he's thinking or nervous, he will pace moreso than not.
PET PEEVE: He absolutely hates being interrupted when he's speaking, especially if said speech is his way of working through a problem. He may not yell, but he will give a harsh, quick rebuke before continuing.
TRAITS:
Milo is the sort of person who is aloof but in a comical way. He could care less what people think of him. He's usually far too wrapped up in his own train of thought to give a thought to it or even care if someone laughs at him rather than with him. Maybe some would call him dense or stupid for that, but again, he doesn't care. Chances are he doesn't hear half the gossip floating around about him. He tends to babble on quite a bit when he's with someone, especially if he's trying to work out a solution to some problem or answer to some question in his head. Other times, he'll be quite silently working to diligently answer said question rather than clue you in by monologuing, and he'll come out with a great big, "Ah-ha!" followed by something that sounds completely far-fetched and out there to any other mind. Again, he doesn't care.
He views himself as quite brilliant, and if you think otherwise because of some idea he comes up with, then you don't matter at the moment so long as you don't get in his way--not that he ever really becomes violent in such situations. Violence he views as a last resort and hardly proper conduct for a gentleman. He prefers a more peaceful fashion of dealing with things unless there truly isn't any other way. He can be a bit of a pacifist because of this, but really, that is not to say he has no opinions. Nor is it to say he doesn't take strong stances ever because he certainly does if the circumstance calls for it.

HISTORY:
Milo Adrian Witte, as with all human beings, had both a mother and a father at some point. In fact, it is arguable since both are likely still alive, though one's whereabouts are most certainly unknown to him, he still has a mother and father like many human beings do at some point in their life. However, his father, simply put, wasn't mature enough to know how to deal with a child, so his mother had to raise him on her own--at least, that's what he was told growing up. The truth of matters is he was the result of a one-night stand between a pureblood and a muggle, hardly something the Witte family thought appropriate.
Being of the mindset of several (but certainly not all) pureblooded families, the Witte family disowned their daughter, leaving her with enough to get a fair start--something they prided themselves on being able to say they did. At least they didn't simply leave her without in her condition. His mother, ashamed and afraid, hardly had time to even so much as think about tracking down her one-night lover during those first few months on her own, and by the time Milo was born, she couldn't dream of springing that on the man. After all, a baby was one thing, but magic was a whole other thing entirely, and she would have had to clue him in on that, right?
So it was that Milo was raised by a single mother in the muggle world, completely happy with the fact. He never truly began school--at least not in the public spectrum. Instead, his mother chose to teach him at home, afraid of what could go wrong should he be amongst muggle students and lose his temper and thereby any semblance of control over his magical abilities, which had not been honed by this point for more than obvious reasons.
It was the eve of his eleventh birthday that Milo received his Hogwarts letter, and he was excited. His mother, on the other hand, seemed a little hesitant. After all, in order to get him his needed supplies, she had to re-enter a world she had left eleven years ago. Still, for sake of her son, she put on a smile and feigned excitement. After all, he had no knowledge of the turmoil she had faced in life due to one momentary lapse in judgment. He was too young to, and sure, he'd seen prejudice in this world he'd grown up on, but nothing of the nature she'd seen.
It was that summer that questions regarding his father really truly began. "What house was dad, mum?" "How did you meet?" "What subject was he good at, mum?" Of course, he never asked why he'd left them, even if by now, he figured the "he needed to mature" excuse was just that, an excuse. After several days spent insisting she didn't want to talk about it, the truth began pouring out--at least, it did in part. She certainly didn't mention the one-night stand issue, but she did begin to talk about pureblood prejudice and the fact his father was a muggle, making him a half-blood, and explaining to him the teasing he could encounter.
While the concept confused him, Milo didn't seem any less excited about his impending education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He allowed himself to experience in full everything thrown at him when they took his first trip to Diagon Alley, feeling fully amazed by quite a bunch of things he saw. Being of an inquisitive nature, the boy could hardly wait to begin to figure out how so many things were the way they were, whether it be a simple animated miniature dragon of sorts or something far less intriguing to most wizards out there.
Upon arrival and the commencement of the sorting ceremony, Milo was sorted into Ravenclaw. He was more than proud to be part of his mother's former house. Throughout his first year, he managed to gain the reputation of being a "half-blood muggle" simply for the fact everything magic seemed so new to him. He may have seen his mother use it from time to time, but in general, he rarely saw her perform any. For all intents and purposes, he had been raised as a muggle.
However, he made it through school in a manner that seemed effortless to most of his peers. Never mind he actually had to put a lot of work into things to get the grades he got--at least in the fashion of research. Of course, his research went beyond the required scope as he sought out answers to anything and everything he could get his hands on.
That's what lead him into arithmancy. He had determined, like most students, that divination was a load of bunk, to be quite frank. The professor seemed a fraud, and nothing they were taught ever clicked. All approaches seemed to be mystical, emotion-based, and illogical. Therefore, it was "stupid" and "nonsensical." However, when he decided to take arithmancy, he found an approach to figuring out the future that made a lot more sense. Instead of reading into cryptic, random, happenstance shapes of tealeaves on the bottom of the cup, numbers were combined in various ways to determine an outcome, and there seemed to be quite a lot of truth in it.
As the year went on, he became more and more intrigued, and during the summer, he spent his time with his nose in the books he could find on the subject matter. It was no big surprise, therefore, when he began seeking employment at Hogwarts as soon as possible. However, Professor Camden didn't seem willing to retire until far too recently for Milo's liking. Still, starting last year, he was able to call the post of Professor of Arithmancy his own, and here he remains for the looming new school year.
His second year teaching has proved an interesting one, to say the least. A fleeting first romance made the 25-year-old's spirits lift immensely and he doted on her as much as possible with his idea of romance (homemade gifts and dinner dates out), but it came to an unfortunate end around winter holiday. Events at the school have kept him on his toes since then, leaving him with little time to think on what happened--not that he really would should he have the chance. Milo's not one to dwell in the past. The present is so much more interesting.
