(Aka: Crazy Cookie Muse II)
December 27th, 2011
The timer on her oven started going off and Evie slid off the bar stool that was near her counter and slipped on some oven mitts. She bent down after pulling the oven door open and took out two trays of fresh cookies and set them on the stove top to cool before taking them off. While those were cooling she looked around her little kitchen. Every possible space was filled with plates of different kinds of cookies, some were chocolate chip, some were peanut butter, sugar, shortbread, pumpkin...just about anything she could think of. There were even a few of them that were experiments and she didn't really even know what they were. This was madness....really it was and Evie had no idea what possessed her to start baking. With the holidays and Christmas having just passed Evie was feeling a bit lonely. All of her people that had families were off spending time with them, others were spending their time with the bottle or hookers and here she was...
She knew that this was going to be a hard time for her, Alex was thousand of miles away, spending the holiday without his mum, Julian was...god knows where, Evie really had no one. No one had even come by to see her or sent a owl to wish her a happy holidays...and it got to her. With certain people knowing she was alive, she had expected at least something.
They all knew she was here alone, with no one to go to. Not even Ian had said anything...not that she expected him too. That was just how Ian was but still...it hurt her a little. Usually when she was feeling down Evie took to her punching bag but not tonight...she didn't have the energy to fight something or want the soreness in the morning and after hoping to drown her sorrows in a bottle of wine (which she did) but, before she knew what was happening she had made two dozen cookies and just kept going.
It had been a great distraction but now that she looked at the cookie sheets on top of her stove and the plates of cookies floating in the air and around her kitchen she had no idea what she was supposed to do with them all. She couldn't eat them all, throwing them away would be a waste, and it wasn't like she could send them off to her people and the other cells...she was supposed to be a hardened woman bent on revenge, not Betty Crocker. But.. Evie looked down at herself and at the cute apron and oven mitts she was wearing and let out a large sigh. OK..so maybe she was Betty Crocker at the moment but at least there wasn't anyone around to see, she had a image to keep up.
Pouring herself another glass of wine Evie sipped at it while picking up the spatula to take the cooled cookies from the sheet before they stuck to the pan, taking her time and thinking about what she was going to do. That was..until someone had said something from behind her.
Evie jumped a little and swung her hand out while she did, knocking over her glass and spilling the wine onto the stove and cookies. She must have had a lot more to drink than she thought if someone was able to get in here without her noticing. She really needed to pay better attention. Swearing to herself Evie picked up the glass and turned to look at whomever decided to disturb her holiday pity party and when she saw who it was Evie almost dropped her glass out of surprise but she didn't. Instead she turned back around and began to clean up her mess. Didn't expect to see you here. She said, cursing to herself and how she did mange to get caught in her little get up after all. Really, some people needed to send word before they just showed up here....never mind the fact that she had just been wishing someone had shown up, her pride was bruised for having been so jumpy and not having been paying attention. Evie was better than that, she couldn't afford to let her guard down now and here she was..
