Eric was seated on the rocking chair near the nursery's large paned window. He continued to stare out it as Berenice entered, not willing to speak to or otherwise acknowledge her at the moment. As far as he was concerned, there was no reason to unless she was going to attempt to prolong the inevitable, which was, as far as he was concerned, completely and utterly ridiculous. Berenice's mother was certainly an adequate caretaker for their daughter for the night. She surely had plenty of tricks up her sleeves after having raised Berenice and her two brothers and surely had recent experience from caring for Berenice's nephew.
Eric sighed quietly as he heard Berenice address their daughter. Honestly, the child wouldn't be such an annoyance if Berenice would be reasonably willing to detach herself for an hour or so here or there. He would hire a nanny for her if that would make her feel better. But not once could he recall Berenice suggesting such a thing. She was far too overprotective of their daughter for her own well-being. It was healthy for both mother and child to let someone else watch the child for a period of time. Overnight was not unreasonable--especially when it was with the child's grandmother who was a seasoned mother herself and perfectly capable to care for the child and bring her home should an unexpected problem arise.
"Are you ready to go?" Eric asked after a few more minutes had passed. He stood from the rocking chair in a fluid motion and reached behind him to still it before he approached her while he spoke. "I fire called your mum and dad to let them know to expect us." He pointed to the fireplace in the nursery, which was only connected enough for such calls and medical access--no more. He wasn't unreasonable and wanted his child safe and sound. Of course, Berenice didn't believe that, but she held all variety of unreasonable beliefs.
