Dres looked up from his notes to glance at the clock for what felt like the thousandth time in the past fifteen minutes. For the past month during any spare time he could find, the professor had done nothing except research possible curses that could fuse objects to people. He had intensively reviewed his memory of her memory in a pensive he had liberated from the headmaster, looking for any clues; subtle components and wand movements Eric had made. Once he was sure he had got all the information he could out of the memory, Dresden had the sent off owls to some of his friends and former colleagues he had met during his studies, asking them for their input and any reference materials they may have on the subject. For the past 3 weeks the Dark Arts professor had been receiving a fairly substantial amount of replies and books and it had taken him the better part of 2 weeks to sort through it all.
His research thus far had been rather productive and Dresden was all but sure he knew what curse had fused a ring on the finger of someone he particularly cared about. Yes, back when he first saw the curse used on Renn, she had flat out told him to leave it alone. Dresden being Dresden of course had completely disregarded her and had set to learning more about it a few days later. Even if he didn’t end up removing the ring, at least he would know more about it and that was never a bad thing as far as Dark Arts were concerned. The more that was know about any given curse the more ways one could protect themselves from it.
The professor glanced up at the clock again and sighed before closing his notebook, leaning back in his chair. He was to meet Renn at her place in 15 minutes even though it was going against his better judgment. It wasn’t that he was worried his skills were lacking, or that he couldn’t deal with the curse outside of Hogwarts. He would have just felt more at ease and comfortable if he could be doing this in his classroom, with proper wards placed and certain friends around to help him out if something went drastically wrong. Not that he was worried they would, but Dres didn’t get to be the youngest fulltime practitioner of the dark arts by being ill prepared. Dark Arts just had the unfortunate ability to be extremely unpredictable at the best of times. The professor was still toying with the idea of having, Milo or Jasper even accompany him to Renn’s just to help keep an eye on things. Hell, even one of his former teachers would be nice to have around. Maybe he could convince Renn yet…
Shaking those thoughts from his head for the time being, the professor pushed himself to his feet and set to work gathering everything he thought he would need: his notes and notebook, extra strong healing potions, a poison antidote, a necklace he had charmed as a walking shield spell (something he was quite proud of) and placed them all in his satchel. Taking one last look around, Dres slung the satchel over his shoulder, grabbed a very well worn looking book off his desk and headed out of his dorm room, locking and warding it as he left. Fifteen minutes later had the professor standing just outside of the Hogwarts gates and one quick Apperation later had him standing in front of Renn’s door.
Straightening out his robes purely out of habit, Dresden to a deep breath to calm any linger nerves, slipping into his teaching persona. Once that was done he stepped up to the door and gave it a few quick raps. Hopefully he wouldn’t be kept waiting for long.
