introducing: the plot you've
all been waiting for!
This is the moment you've all been waiting for! The moment the sitewide plot will be revealed. Hopefully everyone's anticipation has been built (If not, then, wow, you're strong.) and that this does not let down. Below is a list of the main plots. Not everything is spelled out as this is just the teaser thread, but most will have things spelled out in their individual threads as I do have much more specific ideas for each as we go. At least one plot in particular will be a game of "whodunnit?" so expect no enlightenment there. Pay careful attention to threads in that post. Perhaps we shall add an award for our own personal Sherlock to whomever figures it out and guesses correctly first.
As discussed in Skype, it'd be best if we try to tie up old posts before we move on into this. Then, we can have all unrelated posts archived and lead into this on a blank slate, so to speak. If you really don't feel like tying off everything by actually roleplaying it, you and your RP partner can agree on how it ends either by discussing it or by doing a chat RP and then one person can put it into a post format with narrative, and it'll be considered finished. If you're not sure what threads of yours need to be finished, take a look at the timeline, which is located here. Anything marked with ♣ is incomplete because they appear abandoned. Anything marked with • is considered in progress. Those would be the two symbols to consider. Subaru spent a lot of time over the break updating the timeline, so please answer her response to it that lists threads she doesn't know the date for or has questions on.
That all said, I'm going to move onto posting the actual string of teasers!
The Big Picture
With this string of plots, we aim to achieve a common goal: the undoing of our current regime. It will be a series of events involving as many characters as possible. It will likely leave the Wizarding world in an even worse state where it is every man for himself. When we finish it, hopefully everyone will have a better handle on their character and tons of ideas to keep things moving.
For us as writers, the goal of something of this proportion is to help us develop our characters by exploring their reactions in new scenarios. I have tried to involve a variety of scenarios that will incite these as well as hopefully challenge us all as writers by placing us into situations we have perhaps never had to write for any character.
An Order Divided:
From a journal entry by Casey Winslow dated 17 September 2011.
It's over. The Order is over. It's been over, but honestly, this was the final straw. I'm through with it. No one is willing to do what it takes to take out Williams and the Death Eaters. Instead, they'd rather pat themselves on the back for being part of a group and make nonsensical moves that put too many people at more risk than my plan. Well, so be it. Let them all burn. The Order will go down as little more than a terrorist group now that it's known instead of working in the shadows thanks to the Death Eaters and the Order's choice to bomb the Hogwarts Express. It's troubling to see something I poured so much blood and sweat and so much of my life into for so long go to hell, but let's face it. Since Moody, Lupin, and others died, everyone's been gone. I can only hope I can gather some of the ones who actually want to do something before I leave.
From a letter to Casey Winslow dated 18 September 2011.
Winslow,
While I cannot say that I think your plan will not work, I am appalled that a man such as yourself would even consider such a venture. I understand that desperate times call for desperate measures, but such a crime will not only affect the Williams girls, but their peers as well. I think it will be more harmful in the long run to associate the name of the Order with childhood memories of one’s friends disappearing. I only write this as an opinion, and not a judgment. You have been involved or in charge of the resistance far longer than I’ve even been aware of it, but I really feel that this is a mistake and will only lead to darker times ahead.
As a former teacher, I’m sure you understand the affection one gains for your students. To that end, can you please try to understand how it felt for me to be faced with the crushing of a student’s spirits? Perhaps I am not made of stern enough stuff to knowingly sacrifice a child’s mental well-being for the sake of the country. Perhaps such a thing IS a weakness, but I urge you, as a compassionate man, please try and find another way!

A Prelude to Madness
From the Daily Prophet issue dated Sunday, 18 December 2011.
The Wizarding world finds themselves waking this morning to devastating news. Katya and Layla Williams, aged 15 and 11, are missing. Professors reported they watched the sisters approach the carriages safely before losing track of them in the shuffle of getting other students on their own carriages on their way to the Hogsmeade station.
Lord Williams has offered a reward for the safe return of his daughters. “Please, if you have any news at all, report it to Markus [von Wolfram of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement],” he stated in the emotional press release he gave this morning. The distraught father seemed to have an idea who might have taken his daughters, however. “In August, someone tried to take Katya, but they took Undersecretary Maeve McLeod instead,” he stated. Looking directly at the cameras with a menacing look, Lord Williams declared, “Whoever you are, I will hunt you down, and I will find you. I will see to it personally you suffer.”
cont'd on A2.
What better way to start our downward spiral than with the disappearance of Trevor's daughters? This plot has been in the works for a few months, and it seemed like the best kick off point for this plot.
While it may involve a few characters at its heart, it has the potential to plant seeds of doubt as future events unfold.
Directly involved: Jacob Sullivan, Katya Williams, Syndicate members, Trevor Williams
Indirectly involved: It's a kick-of point, so it'll be something everyone will want to note, but it's unlikely those who are not personally invested with Trevor to be overly affected, but hey, explore it if you want.
Ring of Fire
From a special issue of the Daily Prophet issue dated Friday, 23 December 2011.
Patrons of Diagon Alley were out in mass this evening finalizing gift shopping and meal preparation. Lines wrapped around tiny stores, and some were almost impossible to enter save for the lines carefully guarded by the Imperium Guards acting as a sort of bouncer to moderate store entry. All in all, it was a typical 23rd December. The only difference was the presence of a certain leather-clad attacker lurking about wandering the streets. Her face was kept in shadows by the hood of her jacket as she seemed to all to be looking for somewhere to go to seek shelter from the cold. No one would have guessed her intent could possibly have been any more dangerous than pickpocketing.
The two blasts that occurred at the corner of Knockturn and Diagon Alleys and only meters away from a line of shoppers sent the street into a frenzy as people began to disperse, frightened. The Imperium Guards struggled to regain control so the suspect could be located, but no one was found. The scene was eerily reminiscent of the attack only a handful of years ago that rendered the popular shopping destination out of business and abandoned.
Directly involved: Catrin Sinclair, Imperium Guards, any characters shopping in Diagon Alley.
Indirectly involved: Anyone who doesn't want to be in the thread.
A Time for Terror
From the Daily Prophet issue dated Saturday, 12 November 2011
With the departure of Defense professor, Urania Blackthorne, early November, Hogwarts had found itself with a vacancy and few applicants. This morning, the Ministry Head of the Department of Education issued a statement revealing a decision has been reached. Professor Hebron James shall begin his stint as Defense professor tomorrow morning. You may recognize James as the author of Dark and Twisted: Travels and Tales of the Shadow World, which was released this past summer.
When questioned what drew him to the position, James stated, "Experience is the best teacher. Having been taught by that great mistress of adventure, I feel I owe it to the Wizarding world to share the valuable information I've picked up along my journey." As the interview progressed, it became even more obvious how passionate James feels about the position and just how qualified his experience has made him for the position. Never before has Hogwarts seen someone for this position with such promise and qualifications. Our students shall find themselves with a breath of fresh air come Monday.
How might this man relate to the plot title, you might ask? This is one part of the plot that is still masked in secrecy. Things shall be revealed about Professor James through his posts if one reads with a careful eye. But trust me, once this plot begins, you are in for the ride of your life. Prepare for some intense posting for characters of all types from students to professors to Imperium Guards to even the very citizens as they watch the events unfold.
Directly Involved: All students and professors will find themselves involved with this plot as will our resident Imperium Guards.
Indirectly Involved: All citizen characters will want to follow the Daily Prophet faithfully as it will definitely affect them and their feelings of security.
Novum Rex
Letters to the Editor from the Daily Prophet issue dated 26 December 2011
To the editor of the Daily Prophet,
What kind of halfblooded monkey has Lord Williams appointed to the position of Minister? This underblooded, untried, unknown scoundrel has no history in politics and no history in the wizarding world. Who is this Elias Hunt? My contacts at the Ministry have no information on him, and he certainly has not come out of Hogwarts, given his lack of graduation records. The man is a dark horse, and I, for one, feel like he can't be trusted. As a pureblooded member of society, I feel like we were promised a return to sanity with the cleanup of our cultural blood. By appointing this half blooded mongrel to such an important position, Williams has clearly spelled out that he doesn't care about the old blood. He can't count on this Hunt's loyalty to the wizarding world, and he can certainly not count on my financial support for special projects!
- Gellert Jones
To the editor of the Daily Prophet,
What a refreshing breath of clean air! I am so excited to see what Minister Hunt can do for Britain! Sure, he may not be the pureblooded ideal, but any help for Lord Williams is welcome. We have been through a rollercoaster of events with rebels attacking the Hogwarts Express, the unfortunate disappearance of Katya and Layla, the mysterious silence from Hogwarts, and the investigation trying to find the Butcher. Lord Williams has made a brilliant political move to solidify the nation in our times of trouble, showing all of us that we need to look past differences in our heritage and come together. Minister Hunt may not be pureblooded, but he's working hard. So far his acceleration of the Butcher investigation, his dedication to finding Layla and Katya, and his amiable, open personality has truly endeared me to him. Well done, Lord Williams, on your brilliant choice!
- Clarissa Umbridge
Times are changing, and with them, the political climate. As you can read, the citizens of Britain are split in opinion over their new Minister of Magic, Elias Hunt. How long can this ambitious young man with the ambiguous past walk the shaky political tightrope surrounding his new position? With the world falling down around Trevor Williams, what role will his new Minister play? Political intrigue, a game of smoke and mirrors, and misplaced trust are the order for the day in Novum Rex, where governments fall and rise!
Directly Involved: Death Eaters, Imperium Guard, citizen with government interests
Indirectly Involved: Anyone interested in the current political climate willing to follow the Daily Prophet.
Turning Tides
From an article of the Daily Prophet article dated 16 January 2012.
A surprise press conference was called earlier today at the Ministry of Magic. On-scene reporter Darby Quince reports that Minister Hunt announced the shocking abdication and disappearance of Trevor Williams following the scandal at Hogwarts. Hunt assured the press members that the investigation continues and more Guards will be deployed to the scene. Meanwhile, a new investigation was also announced regarding the disappearance of the former Lord Williams. It is not known at this time whether there was foul play involved or not. More to come as the story unfolds.
With the disappearance of Trevor Williams after the new year, our new "king" finds himself alone to rule over the wizarding world, but he also finds himself met with unexpected troubles as Turning Tides progresses. The title, perhaps, a double entendre, for indeed the tides are changing, but which way will things go?
Directly Involved: Pretty much everyone has potential to become directly involved.
Indirectly Involved: Those who don't want to be directly involved
Exposure
From a Daily Prophet article dated 22 March 2012
For the past few months, we have documented mysterious disappearances of witches and wizards venturing outside the wizarding world. Today, Minister Hunt has released a statement urging all wizarding kind to be especially careful when outside of our borders. A rapid increase of activity for our Obliviators in relation to a few of these incidents has the government wondering if muggles are somehow involved in these disappearances.
"We cannot rule out the possibility of muggle involvement at this time. Our investigative teams have noted a strong correlation between the areas that witches and wizards have disappeared from and the availability of muggle technology. While muggles are, obviously, inept in areas of magic, the Ministry refuses to take a stance that their technology does not pose a threat to our continued secrecy," said Hunt.
He closed again urging everyone, "Avoid traveling alone in muggle areas if at all possible to reduce the possibility of an incident. If unwanted contact should occur, protect yourselves and alert the Ministry."
The beginning of the Williams regime marked the beginning of radio silence between the minister of magic of the wizarding world and the muggle prime minister. In response, the paranormal research division of MI:5 was launched. Kept under wraps, this division has been on the lookout for any sign of what might have caused this silence, and they haven't had any answers...until now.
Directly Involved: Pretty much everyone can/will become directly involved.
Indirectly Involved: Those characters that aren't RP-d in it for some reason, I suppose, though I don't see how anyone can get out of this one.
