Location: Professor's Common Room
Date: Sunday, December 31, 2000
Involved:
Me: Casey W.
Summer: Evie W., Julian W.
There wasn’t anyone she really wanted to see tonight except for the Weasley’s and Trey and even then Evie would just rather spend the night with her son playing games or watching the fireworks (if Julian could stay awake that long) she didn’t want to be down in the common room with the rest of the professors and other friends and collegues that were invited for the New Years party. She didn’t want people looking at her and whispering something about what happened before Christmas or people asking if she was alright and how she was doing and how Julian was handling it. It would drive her insane, she wasn’t looking for pity and didn’t want it from people.
That was why she decided to stay in tonight, if there was any chance of Casey being there she didn’t want to see him or risk taking Julian down there with her because she couldn’t find a babysitter and risk her son seeing his dad. No, it was better this way and besides, it was time spent with her baby, how could Evie ask for anything else?
The laughing in the hallway made Evie look over her shoulder and at Julian who sat there playing with his toys and despite everything that was going on in her life Evie smiled and shut off the bathroom light, bending down to scoop Julian up in her arms as she walked out of the bathroom and into the living room. She cradled her son in her arm as her left hand started to tickle him and give him kisses all over before she blew on his stomach.
Once he settled down from the laughing Evie took Julian into the little kitchen area where she had made them some dinner (having went into the bathroom to check her eye because it felt like something had gotten into it). Nothing special just mac and cheese but Julian loved it seeing as it was his favorite. After Julian had finished all his macaroni and his glass of milk Evie took him back into the living room to play game, having settled on playing Candy Land which they did until there was a knock at the door. Evie sighed as she set the dice down, telling Julian I’ll be right back before she got up from the floor and walked to the door, opening it to find…
Casey was tired of the whole monotony that single life seemed to bring. What made it worse was not knowing whether or not he was for sure single. After all, he'd yet to receive papers from Evie saying it was over even though he knew she'd always told him that if he cheated on her everything would be over. What was the hold up then? Was it anything to hope for? After the Christmas disaster, he'd thought for sure he'd find someone delivering divorce papers to his door within the next couple of days. So far nothing, and it was now New Years Eve and people were partying in the common room.
He'd come down, mainly to see if Evie would come down, and if she did, if she would hang out with Trey. Merlin knew he was suspicious of the other man's intentions towards his wife now more than ever before. After determining Evie was not present and that Trey was otherwise preoccupied, he'd made his way towards their old room where she stayed with his son, whom he hadn't seen in what felt like forever, even if it had only been maybe two weeks since he'd properly sat with his son, only a few days since he'd technically seen him. He didn't care. It wasn't enough. He wanted to spend time with his son, and if Evie was mad, then so be it.
Once he was at the door, he knocked, and he was a little surprised to find it opening only a few moments later. "Hi," he said awkwardly, his hands going for his pockets before he pulled them both right out in case he needed to push the door to keep it open. After Christmas there was no way he expected her to be civil with him, though maybe it wouldn't be so bad without her parents or Trey around. Hopefully? Too much to hope, though, and he knew it. "Just wanted to see my son. I'll leave you alone, but I just wanted to see Julian."
Her smile quickly disappered when she saw Casey behind her door. He just didnt give up did he? She knew that letting Casey see Julian on Christmas would be a mistake but Julian had been asking about where his daddy was all night and she thought she owed it to the little guy, well, she didnt owe anything to Casey. Without a word Evie closed the door again, she would lock it and deadbolt it and put a hex on it if she had to, he wasnt coming in.
Casey threw his hands out, his palms resting flat against the door as he pushed against it to fight to open it. "You can't keep me from him, Evie, even if I were guilty. He's still my son, and I have the right to see him." Yeah, he could have come up with a better defense, if he sat and pondered it, but this was spur of the moment, and he couldn't think for hours or even minutes. Evie would have the place secured against him by then, and he didn't want to have to deal with that, but he would if he had to to see his son. He'd leave her alone and ignore her, if he had to. He didn't care so long as he was in there with Julian, playing with him, talking with him, seeing how he was holding up.
Evie put all her weight into closing the door, hand on the lock and ready to turn it the moment it was closed. No, you don't Casey she said as she struggled to get the door closed cheating on his mum, deny having him and then dsappearing for weeks...some father. Leave now before you cause us any more pain
"Let me in," Casey said, moving so his shoulder was pushing into the door with his body weight instead of his palms. "I want to see my son." He would threaten to take her to court if she didn't let him, but he'd have no case. There was no divorce yet, so there couldn't be a case, but he could threaten to take him once she did file for it, which he was surprised she hadn't already done. Was she hoping for some miracle? Did she want to belive him? Must, to be holding out this long.
Evie continued to push all her weight into closing the door so that Casey couldn't make it inside and when it was starting to get to hard so grabbed for her wand and used a spell to get him away from the door before shutting it again and quickly locking it. Go away Casey! Your not welcome here, you saw him on Christmas and that was more than you deserve Evie said through the door where she was still standing behind in case he still insisted and tried to get in, if she had to send him to the hospital wing she would but he was not getting in here.
Casey hit his fist against the door as it closed, kicking it as well. He was tired of this, tired of being treated like he was going to hurt his son or something, tired of being treated like he didn't have rights to see him. He did! Until she got a court order saying otherwise, he had rights to see his boy, and he was going to exercise them. "Come on, Evie," Casey said quietly through the door. "I know what I did was rotten, but it's not grounds to forbid me to see my son. I know I saw him Christmas, but it's not enough. It'll never be enough. I love him, Evie. I need to spend some time with him. I don't want him to grow up thinking I don't love him."
After what you said, Casey you don't have rights to do anything with him! Just...GO AWAY! she was not going to let him in and she didn't care what he did to try to make her. Casey denied having Julian, he left for weeks on end with no sign, no communication no sorrys no nothing! He didn't deserve what he got on Christmas and he really didn't deserve this.
"I don't think the courts will see it that way when they find out you're a Death Eater," Casey retorted. It was inevitable that they would fight for custody because it was inevitable that they were going to get a divorce. Even if he wanted to hold out hope that the fact that Evie didn't file for divorce during the week or so he was missing was a sign that they could still be, he had to be realistic. Eventually it would happen even if he didn't want it to.
That shut up Evie really quick, they would lock her up in Azkaban and then Julian wouldn't have anyone to take care of him...but he was bluffing...He wouldn't do that to her and even if he did, Evie hated to admit it but she would go to Voldemort for help if she had to. She opened the door a little, keeping the sliding lock in place so the door only opened so much. Leave us alone Casey. You hurt us enough, why do you insists on doing it again?
"I'm not trying to hurt you, I swear. I just want to see my son, and if we could arrange a time when I can come by and pick him up, you wouldn't have to deal with me at all. That's all I want: time with my son. Nothing else. I don't want to hurt you; I never did, but I realize I have, and I'm sorry for it. I know you don't believe me, but I am. But look, I just want to see my son. That's all. Please, let me see him. I promised at Christmas I'd take him shopping for a new present. I'll have him back in a couple hours. Please..." He knew he probably hadn't done much to help his case, but he had to try. He'd just said from the heart what came to mind to say to her. He just wanted Julian. He was his son, too. She couldn't take him from him.
I don't trust you, Casey. You left without a word you drink and are wandering for days...and don't try to say this was the first time. You've left me before like this...I'm not going to let Julian go with you, do what you have to, take me to court but I won't let you take him without a fight. Evie said as she closed the door again and made sure it was locked. She was almost tempted to put something in front of the door to make sure he really couldn't get in and if she had to she would get Trey...not that Evie wanted to put this all on him but Casey seemed to listened to Trey when he told him to leave..Trey was alot more intimadating than she was.
"I don't want to take you to court, Evie. He's your son, too. Listen, I don't see what you have to fear. I never drank around Julian before, and I never will. I haven't touched a drop since the drugs wore off and I realized what happened. I won't drink. Please, just let me see my son. At least let me see him, if you won't let me take him. I miss him." If he had to, he'd blast through that door. Nothing was going to stop him ultimately. He wanted to see Julian, and he'd be damned if he didn't.
No, you saw him on Christmas and that was hard enough on him. Leave us alone, Casey. Your not my husband anymore and if I had the option you wouldn't be his father either...Just go!
"But I am his father, and nothing you say or do is going to change that. I want to see my son. I hardly think letting me see him will hurt him. You're just worried about yourself because you hate me. Hate me, then. It hurts, but hey, nothing I can do about that. My son doesn't hate me. My son loves me just like I love him. He'd be happy to see me. We can arrange it so I can see him without you having to see me. I don't care. I just want to see my son, and there's nothing you can do to stop me. Let me in or I'll see myself in."
You do I'll personally send you to the hospital wing in pieces Evie said back while she got a tighter grip on her wand in case he really did try to break down the door, he was out of his bloody mind, any woman in her right mind would never let someone like Casey be alone with their son after what he did and Evie wasn't about to start.
"Then do it. I love my son enough to risk my life. You aren't scaring me off, not this time." He took out his wand and silently said the unlocking spell, turning the knob and putting his weight into it as he opened it, forcing it open and looking at her, keeping his wand out just in case, but calling out, "Julian! Daddy's here!" The prospect of their son coming out and seeing them duel ought to be enough to keep her from dueling him.
Julian who had been sitting off in the other room this whole time perked up when he heard his dad call to him and he got up and started running toward the voices. Daddy? when Evie heard him start to run over she stopped him go to your room Julian! she demanded, not wanting him to see this if it turned ugly which it looked like it was going to. Evie silently casted a sheild charm around her and set a silent spell at Casey to knock him back into the hall way.
As he was knocked back, Casey cast a shield charm, walking right back in. "Damn it, Evie, I know I hurt you, but don't make me hurt him, too," Casey said, calling out once more, "Julian, come here! Daddy wants to see you." He glanced at Evie warily, ready to cast another shield charm if she took his current one down with a spell. He wasn't going to do anything to her. It would just make him look worse. It would probably frustrate her that he didn't do anything but protect himself, but he'd worry about that later.
Stay there Julian! Evie said again you already hurt him with what you did Casey! she said while waving her wand at him to levitate him from the room and down the stairs, throwing him the rest of the way once he was close enough to the common room.
