It had all started out so innocently. Natalya had been a Death Eater whose name he had not known and whom he had ignored for her youth when Derrin was in charge those few months only to surface as a someone he didn't quite understand when he found out she had been spying on the Minister of Magic, Walter Crane, who had ended up being the believed dead Death Eater Harold Masters, for two years under Derrin's orders, yet she had not even realized the change. He had totally disregarded her, having "Crane" transfer her to a department they needed an unknown spy to be placed in. Then had come his kidnapping of Evie and Morgana's dumping him. Evie had denied him her body for months at the beginning and he and Natalya had spoken after a meeting, and that was all it had taken; their relationship had begun.
She had been nothing like what he was used to. The innocence and inexperience associated wit her, whether imagined or in fact real, had caused him to feel the need to be gentle with her at first until it was more commonplace an occurrence. For a while it had gone unchecked, meetings in places no one could find them—beautiful places, romantic places and plenty of wooing and wining and dining to make her feel special—but then Evie had begun to sate him, slowly allowing for his wildest dreams and fantasies in that arena to become reality and his and Natalya's romantic encounters had started to slow gradually. By then the attacks had come full swing, so he assured her it was only that and that he wanted to explore their relationship in other ways, too, to make it more real. Escaping Evie had become harder and harder after the takeover, and it had been six months since he and Natalya had slipped away together.
Before leaving the office, Trevor had left a short, simple note before her on her desk, the note telling her to go to the Carillon du Lac hotel in Zurich where she was to ask for Francis Amherst. He had left it at that, but Amherst would give her a letter once he was certain she matched the description Trevor himself had given him. In the letter would be instructions on how to get to the Drei Alpenhäuser, a restaurant. The letter would also tell her to say she was to ask for the Austin reservation, and she would be lead to a table for two in a dimly lit corner where he would be waiting. Meetings in secret were nothing out of the norm for the two of them, though it could potentially be considered such after the absence from such meetings and having only seen each other in the office for the past few months, but this was not a conversation he could have in the office, a conversation he wasn't sure he could complete here. He might opt to pause the conversation and leave for the Carillon du Lac where he had a room booked and continue it there.
As far as Evie knew, he was away on business, so that was covered. He had some political allies to gain in eastern Europe and was going to check on Kiley...but not up close (It wasn't time yet to reveal himself to her), all of which he was going to do, but first he had to get rid of Natalya. He only hoped she would still work for him and not harbor ill feelings for him or tell Evie. If he felt she might, he'd just kill her, but he didn't want to. After all, he didn't much think of her as an instigator and she certainly hadn't initiated their relationship, but he had changed, things had changed—more particularly, the circumstances. He and Evie had exchanged vows on July 15, 2010, their birthday, and she was pregnant with his child. The marriage was no longer a sham or a game of pulling the wool over her eyes. It was real. She was his wife and the soon-to-be mother of his third child. He owed her monogamy. She had never cheated on him to his knowledge, after all, and her love for him inspired him to be who she saw him as at least to an extent. So, that was what he would do when Natalya came. He would leave here an honest, faithful man.
