Lucy paused a moment, looking down and closing her eyes, her body rigid before turning around. She knew it was against her best interests to stay talking, especially for sake of her daughter given that she was already sensing something was making mummy so upset, but this was her friend, and it was difficult to ignore her, to say nothing to that. "Maybe that's because it is," she said with a somewhat low tone to keep her voice steady. "Ask him questions, Evie. Ask him lots of questions--the hard ones, not just the easy ones. Dig deep, don't settle for a simple answer. You'll find he's lying, if you do. Ask him about what he did to you. If he doesn't react due to what he's done to you most recently, he'll surely worry from then on that you found out the truth or have met someone who knows it and is willing to share it, and his actions from then on will prove he's lying to you.
"He's fooled you before, Evie, but it doesn't mean that he can continue to do it again if you don't let him. Don't make it easy for him. He's sick, and there's no saving him. Eves, no matter how much you may think you love him--maybe even do love him--you have to do this, and once you do and once you realize he is lying, you have to leave him. You have friends out there. Kyle, me...keep an eye out. You know deep down something about this isn't right--the slavery, the things that he allows to happen to them. It's inhumane. How can you just go along with him and whatever lies he's feeding you?" Lucy paused, taking in a deep breath and letting it out at a moderate rate. Her eyes were pleading as she looked at her. "Please, just ask the hard questions. Do this, for your own sake."
She gave Evie one last look before taking a step back and turning, apparating away as she did so back to the manor. Hopefully Sam wouldn't have noticed her and Bella's disappearance yet. She really was not in the mood to deal with him right now, him and his overbearing, obsessive-compulsive, controlling antics. If he didn't like how she acted, then he could deal with it or leave her alone. It was as simple as that. She was done caring about and worrying about what her husband would think about things. He was holding her back, something she'd always vowed to herself she would let nothing and no one do no matter how much she loved them.
