((So, Summer and I originally started this on SF, but since we figure it would kind of fill in some blanks, we're moving it over here and finishing it before it gets too long to transfer. As such, some of the posts as we transfer them will have less than 100 words, but any we make after we finish transferring [post #11] will adhere.))
January 1, 2009, early morning
"Thank you, Thomas," Trevor said with a twisted smile, placing a hand on the man's shoulder to keep him from moving from the spot. "You did manage to...?" He rose a brow and inclined his head slightly, rolling his hand that held his wand as though to urge him on. Once he had his answer, he didn't fool around. "Avada Kedavra." He held onto the older man's body as it went limp in his arms and slowly lowered it to the ground so as to avoid waking any in the house by the sound of a thud. That was the last thing he needed right now.
Once Thomas Price's lifeless body was placed on the ground, the Death Eater leader walked into the safehouse that Casey and Evie Winslow had taken refuge in with her parents and their children. Pity there had to be so many people. It made things more difficult but certainly not impossible. Evelyn Price had been kept under the Imperius by her husband to keep her from going to Evie with the plan. It was a shame, but hey, it had to be done. Evie was his. He had fallen in love with her eight years ago, and it hadn't gone away no matter what he did. It was an unsated desire that he had for her, and working in close proximity to her this past half school year had only served to rekindle the dying embers of the fire within his heart.
He couldn't wait until she was his. He had a foolproof plan as far as he could tell. He'd taken care of everything. Records of Evie and Casey had been eliminated from public record and destroyed and old articles removed from the Prophet's records. There was no evidence they were ever married. The kids' existance wasn't even marked. Her hospital charts had all been changed to 'Evelyn Ann Williams,' records prior to four years ago marked as 'Evelyn Ann Price.' There was very little room for error here. She'd know to expect any Order member's accusations and be ready to speak against them as well as any Death Eater who tried to "lie" to her. If something fell through, he'd just have to eliminate it and erase her memory of the event. Simple as that.
It was pathetic, but he refused to admit it to himself. However, it was also why he had never mentioned it to Morgana or Natalya. They would just come to him in the night and find him with a woman in his bed. Neither knew of the other, but both would know of Evie and both would learn to stay away and not cause problems or it'd be their necks. The others would learn, too, but he doubted the others would dare try to make sexual advances on him anyway, regardless if they were in front of Evie or not. At least, he hoped not. Masters or Warren or anyone else... Gross, gross, gross. He didn't swing that way. Sure, there were other women, but even they were undesirable. Everyone was compared to Evie. She was the newest yet oldest object of his affections and he would dote on her and she would have everything she ever dreamed of. She would be happy, and she would be his.
However, he had to keep his eye on the here and now, not the prize. The prize would only distract him. With a quiet sigh, he stalked further into the house. He entered the first bedroom he found, quietly pushing the door open and peering in. Shame. This one was such a bright, promising little girl, quite a bit like her mum. But she was his. She was Casey's. She had to go. He could think of no realistic lie to keep either or all of the children. Besides, the more minds he had to manipulate, the more difficult his task became, and he went for simple. Always had since the first failure with her.
Trevor entered the little girl's room. She was sleeping peacefully in her bed, her pink sheet resting lightly around her waist and the side of her face against the pink pillowcase on her pillow, a hand resting gently beside it and a doll in between her arm and the mattress. She looked so precious like that. It made him think of how Kiley might have looked had none of that ever happened. He felt overwhelmed by the sight. Such a precious, innocent little living doll. Could he do this? Could he kill a child? A perfect, untainted angel? All she lacked was the crooked little halo and the smooth, fluffy little wings. Evie loved her. Could he? Maybe. It was possible.
But how to explain why she looked different than him? He wasn't about to say he was sterile, that he couldn't have kids with her. That was just ridiculous because he wasn't going to do everything possible to avoid having a child with her. He wouldn't mind one with her. He wanted one with her. She was so perfect, and their child would be perfect, and their child would be like her, his own, his love, his precious. He shook his head. No, this child had to go, and she had to go now. He couldn't simply dump them somewhere. That risked the Order finding out and using them as evidence to Evie that she and Casey had been married. And transfiguring their looks enough that they wouldn't be recognized was out of the question. It was too complicated and time-consuming. He had to get rid of them now.
But maybe he would leave her for last. Maybe he could come up with a way to keep her before his work with the others was gone. He leaned close over her, pulling the covers up further around her innocent body, covering her head after kissing her brow. "I'm sorry," he whispered.
"Daddy?" He forced the covers to stay over her head as she tried to get out from under them. Damn.
Disguising his voice, he said, "Go back to sleep, Lydia." But before he let go of the covers, he muttered the killing curse reluctantly. There went Evie's innocent angel, her beloved daughter, but it was something that had to be done. It was a price that had to be paid. It was a sacrifice hat had to be made. There was no way he could have avoided it. The children must die. As he left the room, he shut the door quietly.
Julian's room was the next he reached. The boy was sleeping, though certainly not quietly. Trevor made a face as he made a horrendous-sounding snore. This one wasn't any easier. Memories of him as a little boy at Christmas, running up to him to show him what his daddy had bought him and the excitement in his voice at the sight of him during those few short months with the boy and his mother during his final year masquerading as Trey Hunter raced through his head. Those had been good times. If he had known Voldemort were to be defeated, he never would have done any of what he had done to her. He would have insisted the time wasn't right, and he would have been able to start fresh with a life with her. She would have been Mrs. Trey Hunter instead of Mrs. Trevor Williams, but what did it matter? She would have been his---without memory erasing and manipulation. Damn it! Why did things have to be so complicated?
"Goodbye, little man," Trevor whispered with a sad smile, covering the boy's body and tousling his hair as he recalled the name he'd had for Julian all those years ago. "Avada Kedavra," he murmured, and the green jet of light hit the boy's body. The lack of a loud snore after exhalation confirmed his death.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, slowly releasing it before he exited the room, closing the door behind him, and walked into the room across the hall. He wasn't sure if he would find Evie or Evelyn because he wasn't sure if Thomas and his wife had taken the master or Evie and her husband. However, as he pushed the door open and peered in, he realized it was Evelyn. He held his breath and walked in, careful to be extra quiet. Was she awake? Did she know? Had she felt the release from the Imperius at her husband's death and awoken? Had she heard him open the door and known it wasn't her husband? Was she waiting for him?
He didn't have time to wait for the answers. The answers could leave Evie alerted to his presence and wake her to find her dead husband's body next to her. So, without hesitation, he said the killing curse, leaving the room and closing the door before heading to the last remaining room. He entered, stopping just shy of the bed, watching her sleep. She was so peaceful and perfect. The moonbeams that came in through the slats in the blinds lit her face, leaving dark streaks across it, but she was perfect. Tears forming in his eyes at the realization that he'd won, that she was truly about to be his, Trevor leaned over her sleeping form, brushing his lips against her cheek and murmuring in her ear, "Evie..."
