Gemma stared at the spot where Orion had just been standing, trying to grasp the fact that he was no longer there. Trying to understand the implications of what had just happened. Orion's brother..... knew. His house elf had seen them together, and she had gone back and told her master..... Orion's brother. And if Orion didn't succeed in convincing his brother not to tell their parents, then they would know. And then Gemma's own parents would know.... and then her life would be over.
"Oh, damn," Gemma muttered for what felt like the hundredth time that day. That was the first thing she'd ever said to Orion, she remembered then. His expression had been so shocked when she'd fallen on him.... she smiled in rememberence. But then her face fell again as she thought how much better it might have been if she had never gone into the bookstore. She wouldn't have so much emotional confusion, or at least not of the same type....
"But I'm so glad I did," Gemma heard herself murmur, her smile returning, "I know what I'm getting into, now...." She sighed, glancing around her, then pulled out her wands and banked the fires on Orion's cauldrons before walking over to the bed and retrieving her shoes. Once they were on, she turned and walked slowly over to the door, paused once on the threshold, then went out, locking the door behind her with a flick of her wand.
At least I'll see him at the gala, she thought, That is, if we're still alive for it....
