"Momma, look!!" Elise pulled Berenice by the hand, the tiny girl dragging her mother over to the wall display. Sweets covered every inch of it, a rainbow of colour from deep scarlets too royal blues, emerald greens too sun shine yellows. The two year old looked up into her mothers eyes, pointing her hand aggressively at one huge tube that was filled with little purple sweets.
"Purfful!!"
Berenice laughed lightly at the tiny child. She bent down to Elise's height, pointing at the sweets too.
"They're Purple Sweetheart, say it. Puuurple! Say it nicely and I'll buy you some too eat."
Elise scrunched up her face in concentration, " Pur-purful!
It was no better the second time around, but Berenice didn't really mind at all. It was too cute too tell her it was wrong.
" Well done baby girl!" Renn enthused. She held out her arms for the tiny child to jump into. Elise giggled, her little curls bouncing wildly.
"Fanks, Momma!"
Goodness that girl was going to be spoiled rotten if she didn't learn to speak correctly - it was to darn cute to refuse. Berenice picked up her daughter and headed to the counter. The shop keeper stood, watching the pair with a certain amount of amusement in his eyes.
"How many are you wanting?" He asked, after obviously listening too the little conversation between the two females.
"Um..." Berneice thought, shifting Elise carefully so she could get into the pockets of her robes, "Two sickles worth?"
She slid two of the little silver coins over too the man, who smiled and with a flick of his wand filled a white bag with the sweet treats.
He handed them to Elise's outstretched hand, who giggled and clutched them happily happily too her chest. Renn nudged her pointedly, "Elise what to do say when someone gives you something?"
"Fank you, Mister!"
The man nodded Berenice turned, heading outside into the street. Elise began to wiggle, "Momma, I wanna walk!"
Renn rolled her eyes, she was getting so independent... It was a little sad. Berenice relented though, and released the young girl who slid down her body and toddled ahead, clutching her prize.
There weren't many people in the street at this time, so Berenice didn't insist on holding the child's hand, just as long as she stayed in her eye line she'd be content.
A group of pigeons pecked about on the street a few feet away from mother and daughter, and the moment Elise saw them, her eyes lit up.
"Birdies!" She set of at the odd little waddle run, sending the pigeons flying in every direction.
Berenice merely paused, watching her daughter trying to catch the birds who wanted nothing more to get as far away from the little creature chasing them.
Elise was the one good think too have come out of her marriage, the only good thing Eric had ever given her. Her right hand touched her wedding ring, which was fused into her left ring finger, running her hand over the metal. She wished she could remove it, but that had been the hole point. Eric had fused it too her skin so it couldn't be removed, or rather so she was too scared t remove it with her wand. Simply, after the threat of another, even worse curse being released, she didn't dare.
So no, he'd done so many truly awful things, but Elise? No that was something he'd done so right. The little girl had her father's blond hair and icey blue eyes, accept Elise's eyes held a wonderful warmth and shine which Eric had never had. Cold, callous maybe... But no, not warmth.
A giggle from Elise brought Renn back to reality, and to her daughter, who was still to catch herself a pigeon.
It was very sweet.
