Pineapple...such a savage-looking yet surprisingly delightful little fruit. One look at it, and one would believe it wouldn't be, but one bite, and most everyone was sold. He wasn't one of them. So, why, then, had someone found it necessary to leave one in a basket on his desk surrounded by a myriad of other fruits this morning? It wasn't his birthday. That had been already forty-two days ago. After letting go of the leaf he had been touching, he set his hands on the desk for a moment before pushing the basket of fruit back. He wasn't about to eat it. After all, who knew whether it had been jinxed or hexed or otherwise cursed before being sent? Perhaps even poisoned? His guest today could be the guinea pig, he supposed.
Gideon Conleth, the new flying instructor at Hogwarts, was to arrive soon. At least, he should hope. He needed some form of conversation to distract him from the weird, intermittent sounds of first something soft hitting the ceiling above him, then something harder--two somethings harder. It was getting annoying. So was the rumbling sound he would hear minutes after the thing, whatever it was, landed. It almost sounded like a loud purr. It had begun following the owl that had arrived with this fruit basket almost fifteen minutes ago. Since, it had been a weird mixture of a blast sound as Trevor shot some spell at the ceiling to scare whatever it was away, followed by something pushing off with enough force to stir wind, followed by again the somethings soft landing followed by the somethings hard, and then eventually the purring--or whatever it was.
Well, now that the purring was well under way again, it was time for another ceiling shaking spell to startle the thing away and give him a few minutes' silence. He wondered, as he cast the spell, whether or not the person who had sent the fruit basket had hoped if he wouldn't eat the poisoned or cursed/hexed fruit before him, he would be driven insane by whatever was causing the racket. He wasn't going to give that person the satisfaction, of course. He would neither eat the fruit nor allow himself to be driven insane. Annoyance was the most this person would get from him.
It was a wonder to him, though, that Sienna had yet to enter. Perhaps she was a little worried and steering clear for now. Alternatively, perhaps she was getting annoyed as well and had left to find out what was going on outside. He didn't know, and he didn't care at the moment, to be quite honest, though she would be his heroine if she had gone to find the source of the noise that was steadily beginning to get to him.
Trevor groaned loudly and slammed his fist down on his desk when, once again, the confounded creature landed and broke his concentration. If it weren't for the fact he was expecting someone, he would go take care of this thing himself. As it was, he had to at least carry on some manner of professionalism and be present for his meeting and act like nothing out of the ordinary was going on. Why did he have to meet every new teacher before they were added to the staff again? Someone kill him now.
((Subaru's dare was: "Drabble: 40 min, as long as you can go => must use the following: Trevor, Gideon, Pineapples & the discovery of a Unicornpegasuskitten." And this is by far the strangest post I've ever written. But at least it's not my fault! ))
