The tall, lean form of Corc Shepard, paced restlessly in the shadows of an alley as he waited for Soren and Lain to return with the information he required. The Alpha of the Wild Cards had been a force to be reckoned with since the news that Mae, one of his pack, had been taken in a raid of some sort while working for the human Alpha. To say the Garou had been furious at the news would have been a downright understatement. The Alpha had been angered beyond all reasonable doubt, a lesson his son had learned firsthand when he had arrived in Lord William’s office, most of the pack in tow, to have a chat with the human Alpha. The pack had all been hard at work since, trying to track down anything that might give them a clue about how to get Mae back.
Two days ago Soren had received word from two of William’s pack (the assassin and the tracker) that the man that had taken Mae, was seeking to sell her on something called the black market. Supposedly there was an interested buyer, who knew an awful lot about the Garou, Spirals in particular. That news had been rather unsettling to most of the Wild Cards. Hardly anything was known about the Garou and to have any sort of information on them at all would mean the buyer would have to be in league with another Garou pack, or be a Garou himself. But if it was a Garou, what tribe was he with? What pack? It didn’t take the alpha long to start drawing some conclusions. Over the past few months, Bone Gnawer activity had increased in the area and the Wild Cards had more than a few encounters with a few different packs. Needless to say the Spirals and Gnawers had never been on good terms to begin with, and now that territorial disputes were happening, tensions were at an all time high. Perhaps a rival pack had finally had enough… Gnawers lived within city limits so it wouldn’t be a stretch for a pack to realize that 2 very prominent Spiral Beta’s were out on their own.
He stopped his pacing when the sound of bickering reached his sensitive ears. Turning to look at his hunters whom he had waiting with him, Corc let out a soft warning growl. Five sets of eyes snapped up to meet his and a strained silence fell over the small alley. Jessie and Lucas both stopped their bickering and glanced up at their leader, before Jessie stalked off toward the mouth of the ally to join Fletcher. Corc had been running the group ragged these past few days and tensions within the pack were starting to escalate. Hopefully Soren and Lain would return soon.
After about 15 minutes or so he received a warning whine from Fletcher. It looked like his scouts were back. Gathering everyone together quickly he stalked over to where a panting Soren and Lain had stopped. ”Well?” Corc snarled out, anxious to hear what the pair had found out. Lain, the packs best scout, looked up and offered the Alpha a small smirk. ”We found two packs that currently run here in London. Ones just a small time operation, only 5 strong….” The Garou was about to continue one before Soren elbowed him rather hard in the ribs. Lain was a good Hunter and Scout, but the guy continually let his mouth run when it was least beneficial to everyone else.
”It’s not them we have to worry about dad. It’s our friends from the Ace’s that run most of the area here. From what we could gather the whole pack is here and about 15 strong from what I could scent out. They have a warehouse about a 20 minute run from here where the Ace’s Hunters are holed up. I figure there are about 7 of them preparing to go out once the sun sets.”
”Were either of you seen?”
”No. They have no idea we’re here.”
Corc watched as Soren shifted nervously while he and the rest of the pack waited for him decide their course of action. The Garou knew full well barging into another packs territory would result in a bloody fight. Especially this one, considering the Wild Cards and Aces had a bloody history already. As far as the Corc was concerned, if any of the Gnawer scum knew anything that could lead them to Mae he’d happily tear them limb from limb until they talked. Hell, he’d tear them apart just on principle. He snarled viciously before barking out orders to head out. The pack took off like silent shadows, Soren and Lain in the lead. It wouldn’t be long now before they would have answers.
