Kara stared at Jaleth for the while he was contemplating. She knew there must be a whirlwind of thoughts bustling through his mind right now but the evening didn’t belong to him…no, it belonged to Casey, who was patiently (or impatiently) waiting inside her flat. Then, as he finally did speak, Kara narrowed her eyes at him. He was being polite, albeit short, but polite though the rage in his eyes gave off a different vibe. Kara meant no harm by shooing him out the door (although she was sure he was quite bothered by it), but the manner in which he spoke to Casey, to her even, like she belonged to him -- Merlin, she realized. Hogwarts. Their reunion back at Hogwarts must have given him the notion that they were an item, or something. Shit.
She was no harlot, though Amana probably told Jay otherwise. Kara let her old feelings get the best of her, there was no way she wanted a relationship…not a serious one at least…not now. Normally any woman in her late twenties would fall right into some sort of thing in a hurry, but Kara was no ordinary one, and neither were the circumstances. Refuge, rebuilding her life after the tragic battles and takeover of the magical community, was no normal tale to tell, surely. Yet, here she stood, feeling like quite the harlot.
Then the silence. Kara damned herself for being unable to speak at all, waiting for Jaleth to make the move rather than do any more damage than she had. There was a danger she sensed by looking into his deep, haunting eyes and it wasn’t until he spoke again that she realized she’d done something wrong. Her heart sank slightly as she heard his voice cut the air, and his turn of heel dug the knife a bit deeper. Kara saw him leave with grace, maybe even with a bit of his dignity intact. There was a part of her that wanted to call his name and tell him she was sorry, but then the other part of her realized that she was making Casey wait through all of this time.
Trying to calm herself, Kara inhaled and exhaled softly. She tried to be rid of the alluring scent that Jaleth left behind. It was her night with Casey that she had to salvage. Kara wasn’t interested in any escapades, really. All she cared about was a night out on the town with a friend who cared enough to try and make her life normal, hell, make his own life normal. Taking another deep breath, she reached for the knob and turned, reentering her own flat. It was there that her eyes met those of the gentlemen whose attention she’d wanted to get all evening..surely this stunt got her more than that. She sighed and shook her head. ”I’m sorry about that…”
Why was she apologizing, really? After all, Jaleth should be the one apologizing for that incident, since he was the one that showed up unannounced, tried to analyze Casey where he stood and make the evening more awkward than it was already…Kara sighed, trying to see what level of irritated Casey must’ve been at her already, hoping that the evening still had potential, and hoping he wouldn‘t have too many inquiries about Jaleth. The evening was about the two of them having dinner, coexisting in a setting that was most unusual for them: a nice restaurant, nice clothes, and conversation that didn‘t involve the ever growing dark empire and its turmoil on their lives. Kara just wanted to catch up. ”I’m ready whenever you are…” Straightening out her dress and flipping back her hair, Kara reached for her coat.
