Markus listen as the Arithmancy professor went on what seemed to be a mini tirade. He did make a good point about needing to find a link between the murders but the way the man was putting things together and drawing conclusions was almost too fast to keep up with. While the Captain admired the man’s drive, Markus knew he was being too focused. In fact, they all were. What they needed to do, was slow down and try and get a handle on the bigger picture.
He didn’t miss the hostility in Professor James’ voice that was directed toward him and his guard, and Markus certainly didn’t miss the fact that he completely disregarded what Professor Lefcourt had said. Obviously the “expert” had his theory/explanation and he was going to hold to it come hell or high water. Markus sighed and resisted the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose in frustration. If this turned into an accusation throwing fest he was going to lose it. Merlin he hated dealing with professors, supposed experts in their field of study. Closed minded was more like it.
”And we have Professor James. Though there is only so much you can pry out of a kid who’s been scared senseless by whatever’s been happening.” He was about to say more on the matter when the Transfiguration Professor snapped back her own reply to Hebron. The Captain smirked, unable to restrain himself. This was one sharp woman, and she had been drawing some of the same conclusions he had. The body was almost a day old. With each kill it did seem like the killer was taunting them, playing with them and it galled the Captain to no end. He had no doubt that the killer was lurking nearby, silently gloating at the fact they were no closer to figuring this out.
Markus continued to listen as Professor Lefcourt continued on, though he let his eyes wonder over the scene until he was addressed directly. He raised a brow at her boldness in asking to see the case files and was about to tell her a resounding no, when she reached into her robe and pulled out a letter. He took it and looked it over before opening said letter and briefly scanning it over before tucking it into his pocket. He then looked at Rika with a hard glare. It looked like perhaps he would be getting someone competent to help out, someone sent from Lord Williams himself.
”Professor Lefcourt, we can discuss case files later, right now though… Everyone not an Imperium Guard or Professor Lefcourt needs to get out; you’re contaminating the crime scene. If we get any leads I will let you know.”
