Quidditch is something that is a part of student life at Hogwarts. These games are a major part in house rivalry and obviously something many students enjoy. Quidditch can also be a part of an adult character's life, obviously, so should we ever gain members for professional teams, this thread will apply for those games as well.
As this series is now nearing the mark of its 6-year run (The first site was created October 8, 2005.), how to run and play Quidditch games has obviously come up. We have developed a system that has worked in the past, and I see no real reason why it wouldn't work still. This post is to outline the rules as we have a Hufflepuff versus Slytherin game to look forward to soon!
Our basic formula centers around a dice roll code, which will be installed briefly. You can practice with it during any practices you role-play, if you like, to get the hang of where it needs to be in a post to show up and how it works. As far as I can tell, it is unable to be tampered with as it generates random long strings of numbers that translate to certain numbers as found on a 6-sided dice.
As a basic example of how Quidditch games have gone in the past, here is a sample thread. Please forgive the newbishness of it all. This was still from fairly early on, but the last few sites I ran for the series had plenty of professors but hardly any students.

GAME PLAY
Basically, all you need to know is anytime you try to score on a keeper, you roll a dice. The keeper or whoever tries to intercept will reply with their actions leading up to and then roll a dice. Whoever has the highest dice roll is the one whose move works. If somehow it ends up the same number, there will be another dice roll. If the person finds his dice roll to be higher, while we normally do not allow double posts, we will make an exception here. However, we would prefer the other person replies so that there aren't double posts. Nevertheless, if it keeps the game rolling (no pun intended), we will make an exception here to the double posting rule. This is only if it has been a few days since a post.
If you are a beater and wanting to try to dismount/hit someone, you must also perform a dice roll. If the player you are attacking manages to roll a higher dice, then you miss, and the player is counted as having dodged.
Seekers will perform dice rolls to determine if they are hit with a bludger or if they caught the snitch.
The longer you wait for some real seeker action to happen, the longer the game will last and the more action that can happen for the chasers and keepers. Obviously we don't want the games to last forever, but I think your teammates would appreciate some action of their own.
Destiny will reply with the scores intermittently to help keep people on the same track. Destiny will also role-play any unfilled positions, so if you know someone who would like to join an HP RPG and likes playing Quidditch, why not suggest the site to them to try to fill the roles? Destiny will likely also play the commentators unless we have a volunteer or two!

THREADS
There will be two to four threads involved in each Quidditch game to keep down on the confusion. One thread will be for the players. One thread will be for the commentators and the spectators. These two must happen. The other two are up to the players. The other two will be one for each house's pre-game preparation. I will create locker rooms for this. Spectators may attempt to make their way in to say good luck to a boyfriend/girlfriend/friend or whatever, but if they are kicked out by team members, such is life.

DICE
This section will contain anything noticed about the dice. If you notice anything quirky about them, let me know and I will add them to this list.
1) You must have the dice code below the words you type in the whole post or it won't work very well.
2) Do not mess with the little number when it says [*dice=6] That's how many sides are there. If you modify that, it'll change the number of outcomes possible. You may not get caught right away, but one of these days you might find yourself rolling an 7 or higher, and there you're caught.

QUESTIONS
If you have any questions about game play, please reply here or PM me, if you'd rather not have everyone know you asked them. We will add an FAQ portion solely for Quidditch questions, so please don't hold back! Chances are, if you're confused about something, someone else is confused about that same thing or will be at some point.
