Kira, having made it to the stairs, darted up them, her werewolf companion pulled after her by his leather collar. She hurried along the hall, hastily squeezing past a person going the opposite direction and digging in her coat pocket for the key to her room. The person, a man, stared at Kira and the wolf as they passed with a look of incredulity and mild apprehension, but Kira kept her eyes down and managed to unlock her door within a few seconds.
Once it was open, she hurried in and closed the door, locking it behind them before collapsing in a heap on the floor before it, gasping in relief to be away from all the people. Well, the wolf was there, she remembered, but.... she didn't mind him, for some reason. "I'm so glad that's over," she told him, leaning her head back against the door, "I don't like people much, you see... haven't been around them enough to get used to them..."
She waved her hand around the room, in effect showing it to the wolf. It was a fairly small room, with a fireplace in one wall, a double bed not far from this in the corner, a dresser at the foot of the bed, and a chair beside the fire. A window was on the other side of the dresser, and a door to a tiny bathroom was in the wall across from the fireplace. "It's a bit small, but I like it," she commented, merely for the conversational effect, "Are you hungry? I can have them bring up food, if you'd like..."
Fang grunted at the mention of food. Instead, he casty about with his nose, learning more aobut the room that the girl was comfortable in. The boy had been here. Perhaps a day or two ago. The previous occupant of this room had several magical fires going, and something that smelled horrid. Also...ocean water? That was odd. Fang was also picking up traces of a third and gourth person, female and male. The male's scent was more faint, but the female's was stronger. More recent, perhaps? When he was finished, he flopped on the floor and rested his chin on his paws. There was nothing left for him to do really except wait for dawn.
Kira, who was now feeling more relaxed, due to their solitude, sighed and settled herself more firmly against the door. It might have been more comfortable to move to the chair or the bed, but she didn't mind: comfort wasn't something she cared much about, other than the basics of it. It was only when the wolf lay down on the floor what she sat up, frowning slightly.
"Hey!" she said to it, sounding slightly miffed, "That's a nice, clean rug.... you're getting it all dirty! When was the last time you had a bath, anyway?" Her eyebrows knitted together even more at this thought. "A bath... that's an idea.... you really do need one, your fur's all matted. Get up, I have an idea..."
She stood up herself, removing her coat and going to hang it over the back of the chair before removing her shoes and socks, as well. She padded across to the bathroom, peering inside before reaching up and beginning to unbutton her dress. "You'll get me all wet, and this is brand-new," she murmured, "Go on, get in there... I'll be right with you..."
A bath? Fuck that. She'd have to pick him up, carry him, and hold him down in the tub. His fur took FOREVER to dry. Besides, he wasn't that dirty. He'd showered two days ago. Or was it three? He couldn't accurately remember, but it hadn't been THAT long ago.
The only outward display of rebellion, however, was Fang wrapping his tail around him tightly and his eyes narrowing.
Was she undressing in here? What the hell? His ears perked slightly, then laid back again. That was NOT going to tempt him into a bath. He refused. Still....NO! He put a paw over his face and pretended to sleep.
Kira finished removing her dress and moved over to carefully lay it over the top of her jacket on the back of the chair. She now only wore her underclothes, but they were nice and new, so she figured this didn't mind. She hadn't spend enough time around people to know that her current attire wasn't something people wore when in the presence of other people: she figured it was good enough for her own room, and since she wasn't actually naked, there shouldn't be a problem.
The wolf was covering his eyes and breathing as though he was asleep when she padded back over to him, but she knew he couldn't possibly be; she had seen him awake not ten seconds before. "Oh, don't be silly, it's only a bath!" she admonished him, grabbing for his collar again, "It won't take long... and I've got ever so many towels in there, we can dry you out in no time.... I can light the fire, too, if you'd like... Just come on, will you? I'll drag you, if I have to..."
She wrapped her thin arms about his neck and tugged, trying to lift his great weight, which was more than she'd expected: he obviously weighed a great deal more than her. Shifting her arms to around his chest, she tried again, once again to no avail. "Ugh... you're so heavy... but I'll figure something out. I'm determined, and I have my ways of doing things...."
Fang had no regrets as he dug his claws into the rug and floor. She'd not ever move him, and if she pulled her wand, he'd pull his fangs out. Let her get past THAT threat. Besides, if the pitiful pulling and yanking continued, he might just stnad and giver her a ride that she would have not thought possible. he was a WEREWOLF not a puppy to be ordered about and bathed on a whim.
A low, rumbling growl filled his chest. Maybe she'd take the hint and let him go. He couls shower after he changed back, for goodness sakes! And where were his clothes? She'd set her jacket down, but where were his things? Did she lose them? Oh, if she did, he would be upset.
Kira let out a little squeak of surprise when the wolf actually growled at her. She nearly released him, but then she realized that's what he wanted. She wrapped her arms still more tightly around him, then, but stopped her tugging. "Oh, fine.... but you're filthy, I won't let you anywhere near my bed in that state. I won't even give you a blanket or a pillow or anything, do you hear me?"
She released him and went over to her coat, digging into one of the pockets and pulling out his clothes. They would never have fit there except that DC had put some sort of spell on them to make them hold more. She couldn't remember what it was called, though, so she decided not to explain to the wolf. Instead, she set his clothes beside his head before lying back down beside him and putting her arms around his chest again.
"You're so warm," she commented softly, "And your fur would be soft, if it wasn't so dirty..." She stroked the scarred body, momentarily forgetting that this was actually a man. She was simply enjoying the closeness with another creature, one with soft fur, no less.
He snorted at her. Not let him hnear her bed? Really? He was Homo sapien lupus right now, not somehting that really slept in a bed. One of the perks of transforming was that he was actually fairly comfortable sleeping on the floor like this. Her bribery wasn't going to get her anywhere.
Still, she retrieved his clothing and placed them on the floor beside him. So there was that. It was good to know where they were. He was mildly surprised when she laid down next to him and began running her fingers through his fur. He wasn't sure if he disliked the sensation or not, so he just sat their quietly, listening to her heart beat and breathing. Her fingers felt good along his scarred back. Much better than they should have. Had it really been so long since he felt a friendly touch?
Kira was feeling more and more comfortable in this new position. The wolf was strangely comforting, despite its rather terrifying appearance, and she was enjoying being near it. It didn't seem to mind her stroking, so she wormed her way closer, curling up with her head resting on its broad chest and her arms about its neck. She continued her stroking, gently scratching behind the wolf's ears, the way she'd read dogs liked to be scratched.
She was forgetting more than ever about its true nature, that it was actually a man inside who might be enjoying having a young woman wearing nothing but a bra and panties so near.... and so friendly. Instead, she sighed and closed her eyes, relaxing against the relatively soft fur.
"I don't know what to call you," she murmured, "Just... 'wolf.' Which isn't a very nice name. Too bad you can't speak.... My name's Kira, by the way, in case you were wondering. I'm so terrible about remembering things like how you're supposed to tell people your name and such... not that I've had much practice. I only came here yesterday, after all...."
The girl quickly fell asleep against his side. There was nothing for it, Fang decided. He couldn't sleep under a full moon, so he just waited for the moon to set and his humanity to return.
------next day cut scene blah blah blah words why are you reading this?-------
Fang had to admit, the shower DID feel good. He scrubbed what felt like years of grime off of himself and washed his hair, letting the water run through it. The girl was safely tucked in bed, still asleep for all he knew. His clothing (save for his leather jacket and gloves) was in a wet lump on the shower floor, getting a free washing with him. They'd take a while to dry, but that was okay. He had time. Besides, the girl didn't have a wand. There wasn't much else to be done at this point.
He turned the water off and stepped out into the bathroom, quickly drying himself with the towel before he wrapped it around his waist. The mirror was fogged, so he didn't have to look at himself and all of his scars. Good. A quick pull of his fingers through his hair straightened most of it. Ruefully, he looked at the claws that still tipped his hands. They'd stopped changing some time last year. They weren't grotesque, yet, but definitely inhuman. He sighed and shook his head. Nothing to be done about that.
Anoise had him poking his head out of the bathroom.
Kira awoke sometime later, she wasn't sure how long, in an even more comfortable position than when she'd fallen asleep. She puzzled over this for a few seconds, her eyes still closed, before she realized she was actually in her bed, now, rather than on the floor.
How did I get here? she wondered sleepily, rolling over slowly and stretching, And.... and where's the wolf? She slowly opened her eyes and looked around the room, only to see that there was no sign of the great, scarred creature. Or the clothes that belonged to the man inside the wolf. She sat up with a gasp, letting the blankets fall away from her, and ran her fingers through her tangled blond hair. Had he left? If so, where and why?
She was just about to leap out of bed and run for the door to go and find him when the man poked his head out of the bathroom. "Vat vas dat?" he asked, reminding her of his strong accent. She exhaled sharply, flopping back down onto the bed in relief.
"I thought you'd left," she murmured simply, "You weren't there, and your clothes were gone...." She covered her face with her arms and closed her eyes, not noticing or caring that she was still only in her underclothes.
"You should perhaps haff heard shower zen...unless zis room is haunted by shower poltergeist?" He smiled at her in a friendly expression. She was cute when she was flustered. Besides, she may not have known it, but he needed to ask her some very vital questions. And to get her to answer truthfully, he needed her to trust him.
He left the bathroom and got his jacket. He began digging through the pockets. Money, flask of potion, scraps of paper, a pencil....useless at the moment. Here it was. He took out a shaving kit and went to brush his teeth. He didn't need to shave yet. He was only a little scruffy, and he thought it looked good on him.
As he passed the bed again, he commented off hand "If you want me to leave, I could...It was very kind of you to give me place to sleep like this."
Kira uncovered her eyes as the man teased her about not hearing the shower and frowned at him. "I was asleep, all right? I couldn't hear it..." She trailed off as she caught sight of him, her eyes widening in surprise. He seemed to be only wearing a towel, but that wasn't what surprised Kira; if he'd just been in the shower, his attire made sense. It was the scars covering his torso that had her reacting so. She'd forgotten about all of his scarring, for most of it was covered by the dense white fur of his wolf form.
He spoke to her again on his way back to the bathroom, but she hardly heard him, except in the most general way. "It was nothing," she nearly whispered, "And don't go..." She caught his wrist gently with both of her tiny hands, her hazel eyes wide. "How did you get all of those?" she asked softly, "Do... do they hurt?"
He stopped when her hand caught his wrist. He held back a grimmace, and managed to keep his voice neutral. He didn't like showing off his scars, and was often somewhat shy about others noticing them. Her wide eyes at the wide tracts of destroyed flesh felt almost painful to him. He looked down at his torn skin.
"It vas survival...and no, zey do not hurt anymore. And for damn sure they hurt less than what other wolf felt."
Kira nodded silently, still running her eyes over the old wounds. As if sleepwalking, she slowly stood up and hugged the man, wanting to offer some sort of comfort but not sure how. "I don't mind them," she told him, her voice still soft, "They just look so...." She paused, searching for he right word. "They look as though they must've been painful at the time," she explained, "I just wanted to make sure that... you were alright now, I suppose.... Does that make sense? Probably not... I so seldom make sense, even to myself, it seems...."
She stood there, resting her head against the man's scarred chest, not really sure what else to do. She had an odd feeling that something she was doing wasn't right, but she couldn't figure out what it was. Wasn't it the responsibility of people to comfort others? Wasn't that what she was doing?
