It wasn't often that Kurt Ulrich ever ventured home for his lunch hour, but there were rare days when the office was too much for the man to handle, and he believed he deserved a break from the idiots he oversaw. Today, unfortunately for Lance, had been one such day, and Kurt had happened upon a sight he had not expected. At first the sight of his son locking lips with a girl was a welcome one, but the second the couple pulled away from each other and he laid eyes on the girl in his son's arms, his heart had sunk. Yes, he knew Lance was never one to play by the rules, but when Lionel Blake's niece was involved, it was playing with fire--literally. Still, it had been only a glimpse he had caught before the two had clasped hands and began walking in the other direction, and he could have been mistaken. He had to have been. There was no way his son would fool around with a girl who was spoken for.
Maybe he'd pushed him too hard. After all, he'd insisted he start thinking about his future and appearances and settle down. Maybe this was Lance's way of spiting him, but then again, if Lance had ever tried to spite him, he'd done so blatantly, not in secret. Kurt ran a hand through his hair and shook his head before heading into the foyer and hanging his coat. There were many people he could ask about this situation, and he would, but he had to start somewhere, and what better than to begin with that girl Lance had chosen? But first, food. He felt a headache coming on.
