She was just preparing to walk away when Andrew spoke, catching her by surprise. She hadn't expected him to do anything more than go along with what she'd suggested, in all honesty.
Then again, he is Orion's brother... neither of them know when to do what their told, apparently...
"If you mean the fact that my brother is not in his casket, I know. I'm sure mother and father know as well. Now isn't the time to rub the Ministry the wrong way. No offense, Ulrich...besides, I need to stay with this one here so that he doesn't get in trouble at work and I dont become the prime suspect in the recent, detestable crime. Besides, I'm sure mother and father will start looking into the matter as soon as possible. You should be getting rest, my dear. And pray tell, who is this man who presumes to be your guard dog?"
Gemma stiffened in horror, her dark eyes going wide in shock and dismay at Andrew's words. His earlier question to her about whether or not Orion wore a watch had led her to believe that her brother-in-law was also aware that his brother wasn't the body in the casket, but... she hadn't wanted that spread around to everyone present. Cedric might have scented the difference, if he'd gotten close enough and had been paying attention, but the Guard (whom she now recognized as Lance Ulrich, a former Ravenclaw who had still been attending Hogwarts her first year there, counted as her sixth)...
He is another matter altogether... Not just any person should be privy to that information!
Cedric's low growl at Andrew and the blond man's subsequent backing away had Gemma smirking and releasing Andrew's arm.
"He is my guard dog, in a way... and also an... acquaintance." She didn't want Andrew knowing anything about the Syndicate, if she could help it, especially after his willful spreading of the current information most precious to her. "Cedric, leave Andrew alone," she chided the half-Garou, raising an eyebrow at him, "He's merely concerned for my welfare, the same as yourself."
She gave Andrew a little glare, resisting the urge to pout; her pouts had a way of unleashing more of her Veela ability, and since that had failed on the first attempt, she had to resort to other tactics before trying it again.
"And I do not require rest, Drew. I'm perfectly alright." She had a sudden thought and put her hand to her stomach, mapping out the small bulge there, disguised fairly well beneath her plain black dress. Only someone looking closely would notice it was different than her usual flat, almost hollow, belly. The feeling of the bump that contained her growing children reassured her: at least they were untroubled by recent events.
"What I do need is more information. Since we're apparently being... ah... very open in what we're sharing at the moment-" she gave Lance a swift look, half-daring him to make a comment, "-I need to examine the body more closely. There must be a way to hurry these proceedings so I can get a proper look." She leveled Andrew with a penetrating gaze, her dark eyes fixed on his blue ones. "Someone's modified that corpse to look like my husband. I want to know how it was done, and, by possible extension, who is responsible."
