That was all nice and sweet. The only problem was... it proved nothing. So he was a metamorphmagus and wasn’t using polyjuice potion. That was fine and dandy, but again, it proved nothing. Both options were possible. He could be Trevor Williams and could be telling the truth. Or he could be like her own theory had indicated. Either way, she was again stuck with taking his word for it and, given her experiences in the past two-odd years, wasn’t even remotely enough. And it didn’t mean that the temptation of putting him the dungeons and wait for this to sort out was gone from her mind either.
To put it simply, she didn’t trust him. Agreed, she had done similar when she had met her uncle the first time, and pretty much when she had met with the Uesugi and Nakamikado. The difference was that the meeting with her uncle had been in the muggle world. And the meeting with those who were basically the arch nemesis of the Hojo....
Well, that one had been pretty much the same. The difference being only that she wasn’t the ruler of Japan’s wizarding world, so an attack on her wouldn’t have had the same consequences as an attack on him.
The whole thing simply sounded too easy for someone who had been dragged into the disgusting political machinations of wizarding Japan and who had tried hard to stay out of the British equivalent. And maybe there was a certain amount of paranoia connected to it as well. Whatever the case, it simply didn’t work like that. She couldn’t simply take his word for it. He was human, he wasn’t trustworthy at this point.
“Maybe,” she finally said. “Maybe not. There is a way to figure out whether you’re telling the truth or not. Sparky.”
“Yes milady?”
“We will require some veritaserum. Would you be so kind and bring us the bottle?”
With that the house elf disappeared and returned not long afterwards. In the meantime Rika kept her eyes on Williams. After the elf had returned with the small bottle and placed it on the desk Rika’s gaze hardened slightly. “You can of course say no.” It just wouldn’t be sitting too well with her.
