Julia hadn’t gotten a decent night’s sleep for about the past week, and in the last few days her troubles had just gotten worse. She was sure something had happened to Katya. The other witch was popping up in dreams, unsettling dreams, and Julia had experienced a few striking images in her crystal ball and other visions involving her friend. From what she had seen, Katya was in trouble; she wasn’t just going to sit around and wait for things to get better. All of the visions showed Katya somewhere Julia had never seen before; she had to find out where that was. She had to know that the other witch was safe. Casey had promised her that Katya would be safe but she had her reservations.
If only she didn’t have to wear the stupid necklace! The tracking device that told Williams her every move. She couldn’t very well go looking for Casey again without risking Trevor finding out. Did he even know about their meeting? That Katya had been taken already? If he did he certainly hadn’t come after her yet. And that was exactly why she had decided to try and figure out a way to fool the tracking necklace instead of looking for more information about Katya. If she managed to tamper with the tracking device she would be able to meet with Casey again and see what he knew about where Katya was. There had to be a way to fool the necklace, some charm to make Williams think she was somewhere other than where she truly went.
Julia crossed to the window and looked out, ensuring no one was around before drawing the curtain. She unclasped the necklace and placed it on the small table that had been provided, then drew her wand and began to pace. Clearly she couldn’t just destroy it… The only charm Julia could think of was almost too easy. Would Williams have just assumed she wouldn’t use it for fear of the consequences if he ever found out? Finite Incantatem just seemed too simple, and Trevor Williams was not a simple man. She set her wand down with a sigh and lowered herself into the chair before the necklace. Julia picked up the piece of jewelry, turning the pendant over and over in her hand as she tried to think. There had to be something more to it. Without much of another thought she threw the necklace across the room, knowing that the action wouldn’t do anything other than relieve a little of her frustration.
She needed to relax. But she also wanted answers. Tea it was, then. Julia scooped up the necklace and tossed it back on the table before setting a pot of water on the stove to boil. If something didn’t happen soon she was going to go crazy.
